Historia
When Mark Hartmann is asked to perform a post-mortem on a lab assistant killed by cancer, everything looks straightforward. But his initial findings are surprising: Millicent Sweet appears to have died of several different, aggressive tumours. Before he can discuss this with colleagues, he's called to a conference in Scotland. A serious error of judgement gives a pharmaceutical company a handle on him, and they threaten to expose his excesses unless he falsifies his report on Sweet.

Good story, great narration, bad editing
Revisado: 08-24-24
Interesting plot, page turner. Looking forward to the follow up. Sean Barrett is the perfect performer. Shoddy audio editing, paragraph changes without pause, credits cut off at the end.

Ship minds.....the conversations..This must be my favourite. Suddenly the cover art was changed in 2023 on many of my Culture series downloads. What a pity. Why and to what end?

Historia
Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

Revisado: 11-22-23
Disappointed. DC's inner ramblings and opinions as if we're back in a society of old were of no additional value. Plot interesting but took too long to tell.

What happened to Earl?
Revisado: 06-14-22
Hooked on the series but the changed voices really threw me off. My favorite character Earl Harbinger has a small role in this book but sounded like an aged Hillbilly with a sore throat and not as commanding. Pitt was like a whining youngster. What a shame. Monsters were great as usual as was the cliffhanger.

Good story but awful narration
Revisado: 01-31-15
Although I always like stories with ships and amazing adventures some parts in the book were missing credibility especially in the lines of command. I was also expecting more dialogue on the engineering level when the problems start hitting the fan. It was like some parts were missing.
Scott Brick did a great job on Ender's Game but this time his voice was too slow and dramatic. I turned up the speed a notch and that made it just bearable.
I am going to wait for another good Pendergast installment and that delicious voice of Rene de Auberjonois.

Good short story
Revisado: 11-09-14
Would you listen to Extraction again? Why?
Yes. It gives, as in the other Pendergast books, a detailed description of atmosphere and setting; the things I like in a story.
What did you like best about this story?
An interesting and somewhat gory alternative to the tooth fairy. And it has Pendergast in it.
What does Rene Auberjonois bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He always brings an erie atmosphere to the Pendergast stories. The voices of Pendergast and Constance are really well performed and grasp your attention. I truly appreciate his narration.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, not really. The scene where young Pendergast is in the Dufour house with his father is a bit scary though. And Pendergast having been a real bully to his younger brother and realizing it later was remarkable.
Any additional comments?
Truly recommend this story. Pay for it, spend no credit.

Historia
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, she just thinks he has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realises. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published it would ruin lives - so there are a lot of people who might want to silence him.

Another great mystery with Cormoran Strike.
Revisado: 06-27-14
What made the experience of listening to The Silkworm the most enjoyable?
The mystery is very well developed with unexpected twists. The setting in a writers and publishers milieu was very interesting. I love the flowing style of writing and the oftentimes moving emotions of the protagonist. Will he ever learn to deal with the damage done to him by his freakish ex and the in his mind, reoccurring scene were the IED explodes?
What did you like best about this story?
The way Cormoran Strike handles his cases and him being a veteran. The development of his assistant Robin also adds to the story.
Which scene was your favorite?
The surprising ending and disclosure of the murder.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wanted to but couldn't since it was a 17.16 hrs listen.

From #1 New York Times-best-selling author Nora Roberts comes a novel of a woman who needs nothing, a man who sees everything, and the web of deceit, greed, and danger that brings them together - and that could tear them apart… As a professional house-sitter and freelance writer, nothing ties Lila Emerson down - not her work, not a home, and definitely not a relationship. She spends her life moving from one job to the next, sometimes crashing at a friend's Manhattan apartment.

Historia
Spanning the years 1940 to 1965, Defender of the Realm, the third volume of William Manchester’s The Last Lion, picks up shortly after Winston Churchill became prime minister - when his tiny island nation stood alone against the overwhelming might of Nazi Germany. The Churchill portrayed by Manchester and Reid is a man of indomitable courage, lightning-fast intellect, and an irresistible will to action.

Defender of the realm
Revisado: 05-07-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Enjoyed this audiobook so much.. So many events and details I had not heard of: the politics, the war strategies, life in GB during the bombings and Churchills wit, insights, some blind spots and his incredible journeys. I could not stop listening. Sometimes the writing is very poetic.
What did you like best about this story?
The incredible first two war years, the battles and the strategies. Also the communications with FDR and Stalin.
Have you listened to any of Clive Chafer and Paul Reid ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but very well read by Clive Chafer.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Impossible to do over 52 hours, but I read it for days on end.
Any additional comments?
What a wonderful book. I am ready to start reading the previous two volumes.

Not for me.
Revisado: 11-11-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
More layers and a few more unexpected turns in the story.
Has High Noon turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
Did Susan Ericksen do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Not always clear, like the 'phone' conversations. She has done better.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from High Noon?
In general the long inner monologues of the Phoebe character.
Any additional comments?
Although not my favourite it was hard to put it down.
