Victim!
Revisado: 07-26-19
I really, really tried to finish this book but found myself so utterly frustrated with the repetition of poor decisions and obvious outcomes that I just couldn’t persist.
Narration was good.

Six Years - and felt like it!!!
Revisado: 12-07-15
This story had some merits, but I'm afraid that Scott's narration was tiresome - slow and quiet. The tale dragged on and I wouldn't be suggesting you rush out to buy this one!

Enthralling!
Revisado: 10-08-15
I never write book reviews, but I felt this novel was exceptional and wanted to encourage others to listen.
The beautifully-woven story is different, interesting and credible and its setting in Trinidad offers an insight into a rich culture I haven't often come across in literature. A woman's struggles to raise her family in exceptionally challenging situations is deftly told, without being hackneyed, and simply superb narration brings the characters and story to life. I just didn't want it to finish!

Annoying narration, terribly predictable story.
Revisado: 05-14-14
Narrator's voice is ok but the exaggerated over pronunciation of the final consonants in so many words is distracting and very annoying. Actually, on reflection, distraction from the story is probably a blessing as it is very predictable and the characters lack credibility.

Well worth a credit!
Revisado: 08-06-12
In fact I have nominated Night Watch for my Book Club, and I feel sure it will generate a great deal of discussion, both around the book and the broader issues of abuse.
I found the book to be quite gripping, awfully credible and was engrossed right through to the end. Excellent narration helped. The unfolding of the story provided an insight into controlling and abusive behaviours and to the almost inevitable effects, both short and long-term on the victim and others in her orbit.
There are good lessons for us all in being more observant of others' health and well-being and providing support where it is (rather obviously, in this case) needed.
An excellent listen.

Historia
This is laugh-aloud chick-lit that will have you hooked from the opening scene. In this world of Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Bulgari, our heroine, Mim, has to do battle with the Car Park Mafia and the Mothers Superior as she drops her children off at the most prestigious school in Melbourne. But in between keeping up with the Joneses - or, in this case, the Mason-Jacksons - cracks are starting to show in Mim's perfect life.

Skinny plot, worse narration.
Revisado: 11-24-08
I had low expectations of this book, and they were fully met - not a problem. A plot as skinny as some of the characters, and a glaringly predictable story was implicit in the title and precis.
Far worse than the story was the narration. Whilst the narrator's voice is pleasant enough to listen to, and has a better quality than many, it was the inappropriate intonation and strange emphasis on the wrong words that distracted this listener. I have noted this previously in other books read by the same narrator and it really detracts from any story.
