Vile Language, Why?

There is good information in this book, but the book is marred by CONSTANT vulgar ghetto level language and expletives. If you are trying to teach women how to be "high value women," why would you speak like this? If the women you are attempting to reach speak like this, your first step should be to teach them to speak like a lady with correct unoffensive grammatically correct language, not reinforcing ghetto slang. A woman who speaks this way is going to attract men who speak this way. You don't build a house on a broken foundation. Shouldn't you be a better example of class? In promoting empowerment and value, one would expect a more elegant and respectful approach. After all, shouldn’t the messenger embody the very qualities they seek to impart?

An Un-Savory Testament to Modern Society

Selfish, narcissistic, characters depict the lack of integrity and moral compass that is their white privilege in today's modern society. A sad look at upper middle class mindsets, out of whack priorities and repetitive inappropriate behaviors, which include putting random sexual encounters with strangers ahead of children in crisis A sad, sad commentary.

Frustrating book

I loved the character Gentry, which was really the only thing that got me through the book. As for "Z" ... for me there were zero redeeming qualities in her impetuous and selfish maneuvers. The whole story was so far fetched and infeasible and illogical at times that I wasn't sure if it was satirical.

I did not care for this writer's style. For me, this story had an emphasis problem. Some things needed to be more thoroughly expounded upon, some things way less. This could have been brilliant, but missed the mark.

Missed the Mark

This book is basically a long repetitive chronicle of various, albeit significant, high-violence domestic homicides, police responses and victim and perpetrator resources (or lack thereof). The various names and crimes circle in and out of various parts of the book to the point of confusion. "No Visible Bruises" is hardly an apt title for the recounting of extremely physical and bloody crimes. There's just not enough who, what, where, when and why in this narrative. No solutions. As a survivor myself I strongly believe adolescent girls at middle school age need to be versed and educated on what a future abuser looks like in those early stages and how easy it is to be reeled in to a situation that is hard to get out of. How what appears to be a dream partner is a long term trap that devolves so slowly, the victim barely notices the change.. Parents need to be taught how to speak to their young daughters on the topic too. Educating our girls is prevention. Awareness is so lacking in today's culture. We need to be addressing middle school and high school girls now. As for the perpetrators, friends, family and neighbors turning a blind eye is step one. A violent man needs someone in his face at first incident. In looking back at my own struggle I fantasize about having some biker dudes protecting me. See if a violent man can get beyond those dudes. Something to ponder.

A Lovely Story ...

Made magnificent by Tom Hanks' narration. I cannot imagine liking the story as much reading it myself.
