Let it Play On!

Yes, he's verbose, but let it play. I got bogged down at one point, and decided to leave it for a bit... came back, still had terrible with that chapter, but determined to see it through... and EVER so glad I did. Thank You.

Well worth the listen!
Revisado: 08-16-23
This one was only about 90 minutes on audio, a Commencement Address of sorts, and was a nice recap of a few highlights from his first two books, while also including a much-shortened version of a story he included in his 4th book. Definitely a nice graduation gift for your favorite college grad... or maybe even before they begin college, though I'd encourage them to read it again at the end.

This, the only memoir published by a former Schindler's List child, perfectly captures the innocence of a small boy who goes through the unthinkable. Most notable is the lack of rancour, the lack of venom, and the abundance of dignity in Mr Leyson's telling. The Boy on the Wooden Box is a legacy of hope, a memoir unlike anything you've ever read.

Historia
Bonds That Make Us Free is a groundbreaking book that suggests the remedy for our troubling emotions by addressing their root causes. You'll learn how, in ways we scarcely suspect, we are responsible for feelings like anger, envy, and insecurity that we have blamed on others. Even though we fear to admit this, it is good news. If we produce these emotions, it falls within our power to stop them. But we have to understand our part in them far better than we do, and that is what this remarkable book teaches.

FANTASTIC... uniquely insightful into human nature while showing we are capable of much more than most of our society believes. These concepts need to be understood, applied, and shared... by *everyone*. I plan to continue to study and apply within my own sphere of influence.

Read reviews to understand format ;)
Revisado: 05-27-21
Excellent understanding of the brain chemicals that seek to keep us "safe" aka "happy". Note basic premise of human evolution, but not annoyingly so.
Listened through, and will now go back and review the periodic workbook "exercise" questions included... glad I have the physical copy for this, though could have written them down if I'd understood the format. Will be discussing with my bookgroup, and only wish I'd known about the 45 days recommended to accomplish new goals (with the new understanding as presented) so I could have completed one before our discussion - but again, my fault for not reading reviews ;)

Historia
Cranford, Elizabeth Gaskell's best-known work, is a humorous account of a nineteenth-century English village dominated by a group of genteel but modestly circumstanced women. This is a community that runs on cooperation and gossip, at the very heart of which are the daughters of the former rector: Miss Deborah Jenkyns and her sister, Miss Matty.

I was in a hurry to get into this book as I was in a deadline for bookgroup... if I'd understood it was originally written as vignettes for a serial column in a magazine I might not have been as confused. Having now discussed it, I will enjoy it much more the second time ;)

Historia
In Shakespeare’s most intimate tragedy, director Bill Rauch explores racism, religious bias, xenophobia, and the more disturbing aspects of relationships in the context of our society’s ongoing struggle with polarizing differences. Consumed by their bigotry, those who praised the Moorish general Othello’s military successes now reject his marriage to Desdemona. The newlyweds are determined to overcome all obstacles, but Othello’s assignment in an exotic new location draws them into the web of his lieutenant Iago, whose resentment and demons know no bounds.

It REALLY helped to hear the inflection and tone of the actors! Although this was a terribly sad storyline, as one of his Tragedies, it was well worth the listen, and our group had an excellent discussing afterward.

Two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize David McCullough tells the dramatic story behind the story about the courageous brothers who taught the world how to fly: Wilbur and Orville Wright.
On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Wilbur and Orville Wright's Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. The Age of Flight had begun. How did they do it? And why?

WONDERFUL! INSPIRATIONAL!
Revisado: 06-14-20
David McCullough's story-telling is smooth and impeccable... both in writing and narration. Pulling together the historical facts and personality tidbits from various first-hand writings to create a wonderfully clear account. I personally appreciate the inclusion of personal journal entries and letters from the father and sister who had such close relations with the Brothers and provided so much support. What a remarkable family!!

FANTASTIC story and narration!
Revisado: 12-19-19
Ms Leishman's reading was thoroughly enjoyable! I actually choose this version over another because I found her timing and style more upbeat and engaging and am so very glad I did. I had not read the story before, though a classic, and was surprised by a couple of twists I had not expected. I enjoyed the determination of the main character to exemplify self control and thoughtfulness, even when in distress.
