Historia
In 2015, the award-winning New York Times journalist John Leland set out to meet some of the city's oldest inhabitants for a series on America's fastest-growing age group: those over 85. Leland was at a crossroads in his own life. His marriage had fallen apart, and, at 55, he was alone for the first time. He was also caring for his elderly mother, whose main desire was to die. He understood aging, like many of us do, as nothing more than the relentless deterioration of body, mind, and quality of life.

How can we explain the origins of the great wave of paranoid hatreds that seem inescapable in our close-knit world - from American shooters and ISIS to Donald Trump, from a rise in vengeful nationalism to racism and misogyny on social media? In Age of Anger, Pankaj Mishra answers our bewilderment by casting his gaze back to the 18th century before leading us to the present.

A gripping, groundbreaking biography of the combative man whose genius and force of will created modern capitalism. Founder of a dynasty, builder of the original Grand Central, creator of an impossibly vast fortune, Cornelius “Commodore” Vanderbilt is an American icon. Humbly born on Staten Island during George Washington’s presidency, he rose from boatman to builder of the nation’s largest fleet of steamships to lord of a railroad empire.

A Very Human Story of a Father and a Son
Revisado: 09-06-15
If you could sum up Patrimony in three words, what would they be?
Moving, Compelling, Soulful
Who was your favorite character and why?
Philp Roth himself. He was a dutiful son, a compassionate son, who took care of his father and stood by him right to the end. He was giving of unquestionable love to the man who had brought him up, albeit having to deal with his father's demands and temperament which at times was challenging.
What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?
His mimicking of the Jewish New York accent was quite interesting.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Given the stage of my own life and my position as a son in similar circumstances and challenges, I associated extremely closely with the book.
Any additional comments?
A must read for all who take care of their parents, as this will give them a perspective and help in getting to terms with what it is to be a son or daughter.

Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

Thousands of Years Condensed Masterfully
Revisado: 08-09-15
What made the experience of listening to Sapiens the most enjoyable?
The author's grasp of thousand of years of human culture and its evolution was indeed very enlightening. The evolutionary tale is well chronicled. The author does have his points of view on mankind's part in the construct, which may be at odds with some, but the narrative is well explained and debated
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sapiens?
I found the part of the cognizant revolution the most interesting. The part where the homo sapiens taking a trajectory different from the Neanderthals, and in time coming out to be major force.
Have you listened to any of Derek Perkins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not heard previous performances by Derek Perkins, but found this to be very pleasurable and easy on the listening and processing part.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
THE STORY OF MANKIND - FROM FORAGERS, TO THE MAN ON THE MOON, TO FACEBOOK AND GOOGLE.
Any additional comments?
A must read for anyone interested in human evolution, and cultural drifts, and manifestations condensed into a brief history since the begin of time.

Historia
Two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize David McCullough tells the dramatic story behind the story about the courageous brothers who taught the world how to fly: Wilbur and Orville Wright.
On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Wilbur and Orville Wright's Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. The Age of Flight had begun. How did they do it? And why?

An Examplary Narration of Mankinds Daring Feat
Revisado: 08-09-15
Would you listen to The Wright Brothers again? Why?
I would recommend this because this is a heart inspiring story of one of the bravest feats of mankind of the last century.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Wilbur Wright who was the driver and the genius of it all. His tenacity, level headedness and modesty all wrapped in one, is awe inspiring
Which scene was your favorite?
The first flight... by Wilbur, one of the most famous photographs of the last century. That photograph will be seen for centuries to come
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
When mankind is as at its best, there is no other force to overcome it. This is such a story. Orville Wright lived to see their invention used for the horrific follow up in the Second World War, and regretted it, but was still heard to say that he and his brother stood by what they had done. Neil Armstrong, a fellow Ohioan, took a fabric of the original airplane that made the first flight, with him to the moon.... All within a span of 66 years....from Kitty Hawk to the moon.
Any additional comments?
A must read for all of us who believe in the human spirit, its passion for invention, and its reach for the daring.
