Why?
Revisado: 09-26-24
Why does this book have to be so long? Why does nothing ever seem to happen? Why would someone who obviously has zero knowledge of firearms make them a constant focal point, using incorrect verbiage? Just a little research would make the author look less the fool. This is possibly the most frustrating book I have ever tried to listen to. I just can’t do it anymore. Hopefully, I can get a refund for this dreadful schlock. The only decent aspect is the narration.

In the no-holds-barred game, she's got only one rule: not to give up, and woe to those facing a cornered Rat. Interesting introduction to a dystopian future
Revisado: 01-18-24
Set in the Niagara Frontier of Canada, we find a post-tech world, where books, science and technology are shunned by a new breed of superstitious, religious fanatics, where everything is Apostasy.
The premise is interesting and the characters fairly well-formed. Not perfect, but worth a listen if you have ever considered what society might devolve into after a MCE or EMP.

Before Area X, there was Ambergris. Jeff VanderMeer conceived what would become his first cult classic series of speculative works: the Ambergris trilogy. Now, for the first time ever, the story of the sprawling metropolis of Ambergris is collected into a single volume, including City of Saints and Madmen, Shriek: An Afterword, and Finch.

Can’t finish it
Revisado: 10-31-23
I made the mistake of buying the whole series. I can’t make it through the first book. It’s just words, lot and lots of words, with no discernible direction. Apparently the author thinks he is Tolkien, but isn’t even close. Maybe it’s tolerable if you’re high on mushrooms when you listen. Bronson Pinchot did the best he could with the material he was given. Sadly, Audible isn’t allowing returns on books you pay for (rather than using a credit.)

Interesting Alternate Universe Story
Revisado: 10-03-23
This is a really good introduction into an interesting alternate/parallel universe series. (At least, I hope the series continues.) I didn’t totally enjoy the female narrator, but there was nothing distracting in her reading that would detract from the story. I am definitely looking forward to seeing where things go from here.

The primary appeal that Boil the Frog will have for most people will be the step-by-step guide on how to lose the weight you want to lose. However, this audiobook will actually surprise you about how it dives deep into the very depths of your mind to find where you got lost and show you how to come back--even from addiction.

Very Relatable
Revisado: 09-30-23
I had no idea what this book was about. I saw an ad on FB and read some really stupid, reactionary remarks by a couple of people who didn’t like the title. So, I bought it out of spite. LOL. Perhaps that was a bit of serendipity. Boil the Frog was the right book at the right time for me, an older guy who has dealt with weight problems my whole life, who realized it is now or never for some serious changes. While written by a man, the concepts and processes will certainly work for women, as well.
While there is nothing really new or groundbreaking when it comes to the basic information (this isn’t revolutionary findings from peer-reviewed weightloss studies) there is a lot of very relatable personal situations and straight-forward examples of what the author did to take control of his life. His approach was based in part on what he learned from reading Mindset by Carol S Dweck, PhD, which I immediately purchased and listened to. His story motivated me to make some changes that I have wanted to make for quite awhile. Two weeks in and results are already showing up in the way I feel, on the scales and in how my clothes fit.
Other reviewers have complained about the narrator. I get it. He is definitely a character. But I actually enjoy a narrator who gets into the reading and brings personality to the story. Kyle Colton absolutely does that. I listen at an accelerated rate and find that often helps with perceived issues in narration. There are a few very quiet spots and a couple of technical issues that keep this from being a five star review.

Intense and Incredible!
Revisado: 06-14-23
I have been a fan of Shawn Inmon since I read the first book of his Middle Falls Time Travel series a couple years ago. Since then, I have read/listened to almost everything he has written. But this!!! This is next level.
I have read many dystopian/post-apocalyptic series and this is hands-down the best first book of a series that I have ever heard. The narration is perfect! The “beginning of the end” is so believable in this story. The characters are fleshed out and draw you in (Shawn’s forté.) The action is intense. The premise is unique. I cannot say enough about the start of this series and am anxiously looking forward to the next book and many more after that. This would make an amazing series.

Edwin Miller is uncertain. Not about any one thing, but about every thing. He's smart, capable, and completely unable to move forward in his life because of his own anxiety. Luckily for Edwin, he lives in Middle Falls, Oregon, where the apparent end is often just a new beginning.

Another Winner!!!
Revisado: 04-05-23
I am a huge fan of the whole Middle Falls Time Travel series and this latest addition does not disappoint. Shawn Inmon has an amazing way of creating such realistic characters and he makes you care for them through their development as human beings, until they no longer need to relive their lives. These books just make you feel so good. You’ll likely laugh and shed a tear or two as well.
Each book is completely different, yet has enough common elements (just by being set in Middle Falls) that you instantly relate to the characters and situations. I love the interactions with characters from other books in the series, whether it’s seemingly a throwaway, a cameo, or a more involved role in the story. Each book stands alone, but they interweave nicely as well.
The narration for this one (there’s a different narrator for each book) didn’t seem like it was going to work for me at first, but three or four chapters in it proved to be perfect. I do listen to all books at an accelerated rate and that may have played a part in my initial perception.
I know I will be listening to this book a few more times while I anxiously await the next audiobook from this series.
Thank you, Shawn!

Had promise
Revisado: 01-19-23
This could have been a good book, delving into the complexities of having loving relationships and trying to create a stable life while suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder. Adding a serial attacker into the mix and the driven life of a hopeful journalist could have created depth and intrigue. Instead, the author seemed more interested in writing sex scenes. This might be a story that some really enjoy, I have come to prefer books with substance. Unfortunately, the author wasted a good premise.

Very Timely
Revisado: 01-18-23
In a world that is advancing so rapidly in many ways and devolving in others, this book shows the importance of not being so dogmatic in our worldview. The smaller the world becomes, we need to be more elastic in our thought processes if we are to survive as a species.
This is a great introduction into this concept.
I loved how politics and religion were set aside in this exploration of the mind and the sanest way to view the world we live in. I look forward to other writings from this author. Hopefully, there will be more concerning practices and routines that can help make our minds more elastic. This book deserves a second or third listen and I definitely plan on exploring the PDF that accompanies this title.

They Just Keep Getting Better
Revisado: 01-12-23
The entire Middle Falls Time Travel series is brilliant and they keep getting better. Shawn Inmon has an amazing gift of creating characters that are flawed (and at times difficult to like) and through great insight allows them to find their redemption by reliving sections of their lives. You find yourself totally invested in his characters and by books end you can’t help but love them. Somehow each book is completely fresh and works as a stand alone novel. But I cannot see how anyone could read a single book out of this series and not feel compelled to listen to them all and then listen to them again. By far this is my favorite book series of all time (or times.)
Anyone who has ever wished for a do-over or has something that they wish they had done differently, do yourself a favor and try one of these books. The first few of this series are available this year with your membership to Audible, so you get to try them at no additional cost.
There’s no preaching, no politics, no filth. Just solid stories.
