Historia
James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.

Unexpected Pleasure
Revisado: 11-21-11
I knew nothing about James Garfield or his assassin before starting the book. I was fascinated with the skillful unraveling of the story of McKinley and his deranged assassin Charles Guiteau.
The author/reader did a splendid job of recreating the 1880’s in my mind and letting me reflect what life must have been like back then --- the historical information was invaluable.
This is a must for anyone who is vaguely interested in American history.

Comedian Jim Norton is dirty...really dirty...the kind of dirty that makes The Aristocrats look like a knock-knock joke. Fortunately for him, his kind of dirty humor has earned him the distinction of being third microphone on the immensely popular Opie & Anthony syndicated radio show. In Happy Endings, Jim brings his raw, hilarious, and offensively honest comedy to Audible® listeners.

Adolescent Humor
Revisado: 10-17-07
Possibly a great book if you’re 13-years old --- an adolescent attempt at boorish humor that’s not funny. I gather that most of the materials were a rehash of his comedy club skits or TV stints. I’ve never been to a comedy club and after listening to a small part of this audio, I’m definitely not interested in going to one.
I kept asking myself why did I spend money for this stupid audio? Save your money/credits.

Historia
In the town of Ada, Oklahoma, Ron Williamson was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. But on his way to the Big Leagues, Ron stumbled, his dreams broken by drinking, drugs, and women. Then, on a winter night in 1982, not far from Ron’s home, a young cocktail waitress named Debra Sue Carter was savagely murdered. The investigation led nowhere. Until, on the flimsiest evidence, it led to Ron Williamson. The washed-up small-town hero was charged, tried, and sentenced to death - in a trial littered with lying witnesses and tainted evidence....

Save Your Money
Revisado: 04-09-07
I concur with those who were disappointed with The Innocent Man. What a letdown. I haven't read anything this dry since, well, never. Next time, I'll wait for the "customer reviews."

Historia
The Fourth Horseman tells the startling story of that mission, led by a brilliant but conflicted surgeon who became one of Germany's most daring spies and saboteurs during World War I - and who not only pioneered bio-warfare in his native land but also lead a last-ditch German effort to goad Mexico into invading the United States. It is a story of mysterious missions, divided loyalties, and a new and terrible kind of warfare.

First Half Accolades
Revisado: 04-05-07
The first half of this audio was extremely interesting and very enjoyable although much of it was a concentration of background information of the family of the main character, Anton Dilger --- much time is spent relaying facts about how important horses were to the conduct of war, very fascinating indeed, and something I never realized.
The historical backdrop went back to the Civil War. Getting to the activities of Anton Dilger and his involvement took quite a bit of time but time well spent.
The importance of disrupting the shipment of horses from the U.S. to Britain and France was a priority for the German war effort. One of the first organized attempts at germ warfare was directed at infecting horses bound for Europe, compliment of Anton Dilger.
The second half of the audio was very much less interesting than the first --- the details became draining to say the least. I found myself drifting off quite a few times and had to “rewind” to catch up with what had happened.
Too bad one cannot just buy the first half because it was so captivating.
