If you love Fairytales, this book is not for you!
Revisado: 04-26-19
Let me start by saying that if it wasn't for the narrators, I probably would have returned the book.
I found it quite disappointing, not what I expected at all.

As usual Joy Ellis does not disappoint!
The characters are so very real, within minutes you are transported into their world, you feel their pain, live their fears.
As for the narrator, absolutely brilliant!....thank you Mr Armitage, thank you!

Historia
This quintessential coming-of-age novel describes the early life of Stephen Dedalus. It is set in Ireland during the 19th century, which was a time of emerging Irish nationalism and conservative Catholicism. Highly autobiographical in nature, the work is also notable for its being the first one in which Joyce uses innovative “stream of consciousness” writing style. A Portrait... follows Stephen Dedalus from his babyhood into early adulthood.

Thank Goodness for Mr Farrell
Revisado: 02-25-19
I honestly can't say that I enjoyed this book, I found it very drawn out and monotonous to say the least.
I'm sure that James Joyce was a brilliant writer, and if anything his attention to detail is astonishing!
But this particular book was just not for me, I listened to the end more out of respect and with a small flicker of hope that maybe, just maybe it will end better than it began, but alas it did not.....the only thing or I should I say the only one that kept me listening was Colin....Well done Mr Farrell, well done in deed, maybe try something a little lighter next time though, maybe something along the lines of Joy Ellis or Patricia Gibney?

Historia
This is a love story. But not every love story is the same. Boy meets girl and girl falls for boy - that much is true. But when Sienna meets Nick it's not the way it happens in love stories: it's because of a squirrel on water skis.... She sees Nick's dangerous brown eyes and thinks don't. Fall. Into. Them. Who will be there to catch Sienna when she falls? She is so fragile. She has so many secrets, and he is not that serious.... Funny and sad, this is the story of two people destined never to come together in the great love affair they crave.

Think I might be too old for this one!
Revisado: 04-24-18
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Don't get me wrong, it's a good book, though the story is a bit too dragged out for my liking.I loved Sienna, she's great!....funny, loving, tender, she's perfect, ...but Nick oh dear, I guess I discovered that I'm more of a "knight in shining armor" kind of girl, he's just way too immature for my liking, no backbone as such. Over all it's not a bad story and the narrators were both excellent!

Historia
A vibrant portrait of Edwardian England, Howards End examines personal relationships and conflicting values. The Schlegel sisters, Margaret and Helen, and their brother, Tibby, place their values in civilized living, music, literature, and conversation with their friends. The Wilcoxes, Henry and his children Charles, Paul, and Evie, are concerned with the business side of life and distrust emotions and imagination.

Boring!!
Revisado: 05-15-17
What would have made Howards End better?
I decided to listen to the book before the series is released, usually the book is always better than the series, but this time I was so wrong! I found it boring and monotonous to listen to, the narrator tried her best, but the story just drones on and on
What do you think your next listen will be?
Diana Gabaldon's A Breath of Snow and Ashes....can't go wrong with Diana!
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No

Excellent Read!
Revisado: 10-14-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Letter to be better than the print version?
Audio editions are rarely better than the print, but in this case it came pretty close thanks to Rachel Atkins! I was on an emotional roller coaster all the way through!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Of course it has to be Tina Craig, she is such a gentle soul, you can't to not like her
Which scene was your favorite?
It's difficult to pinpoint a favorite scene, when the whole book had me captured from beginning to end.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Tina Craig's miscarriage.... it was by far the most emotional, I was in tears.
Any additional comments?
I will most definitely be reading more novels by Kathryn Hughes and listening to more audio books narrated by Rachel Atkins.....excellent ladies, a very powerful collaboration!
