Historia
Two months after D-Day, the Allies found themselves in a stalemate in Normandy, having suffered enormous casualties attempting to push through hedgerow country. Troops were spent, and American tankers, lacking the tactics and leadership to deal with the terrain, were losing their spirit. General George Patton and the other top US commanders needed an officer who knew how to break the impasse and roll over the Germans - they needed one man with the grit and the vision to take the war all the way to the Rhine. Patton and his peers selected Maurice Rose.

interesting read but a little perplexed as to why the author places so much emphasis on Rose's jewishness. unnecessary

what a difficult and sadly depressing event. the absolute oppression which the Palestinians have to endure at the hands of the Israeli Zionists is horrific.
I believe that a day will come when Palestine will be free from the river to the sea.

Historia
In June of 1815, Napoleon Bonaparte's attempts at reclaiming the French Empire are destroyed on the field of Waterloo. With the Bourbon monarchy restored to the throne of France, King Louis XVIII seeks his revenge against many of Napoleon's former generals. While many are sent into exile, the fanatical royalists demand that one in particular pay with his life. That man is Michel Ney, Marshal of France; called by both friend an enemy as "The Bravest of the Brave".

if you are as intrigued by Napoleon, his Marshalls and battles as I am you will absolutely love this book.
I cannot wait to hear if any DNA matching has been carried out on the remains of Nea and his descendants.
A hell of a story.

Historia
A wonderful tale of a young man’s coming of age, Zorba the Greek has been a classic of world literature since it was first translated into English in 1952 and made into an unforgettable movie with Anthony Quinn. Zorba, an irrepressible, earthy hedonist, sweeps his young disciple along as he wines, dines, and loves his way through a life dedicated to fulfilling his copious appetites. Zorba is irresistible in this charming audio production by veteran narrator George Guidall.

Historia
For the first time in my life I felt that death was a possibility; a stupid, pointless, lonely death on the aptly named Mondulkiri Death Highway. The Ho Chi Minh Trail is one of the greatest feats of military engineering in history. But since the end of the Vietnam War much of this vast transport network has been reclaimed by jungle, while remaining sections are littered with a deadly legacy of unexploded bombs. For Antonia, the chance to explore the Trail before it was lost forever was a personal challenge she couldn’t ignore - yet at times it would be a terrifying journey.

over dramatic and whiney
Revisado: 01-11-22
I thought this would be a good read based on Dervla Murphy's recommendation and while the author can create a descriptive picture through her writing the book is very whiney, whingy the whole way through. Having visited this part of Asia myself, I find it hard to believe the wildness of the adventure. The author is very over dramatic. She also tells her story in that common British way of mistaking arrogance for humour sadly. It grates.

Historia
Vietnam became the Western world’s most divisive modern conflict, precipitating a battlefield humiliation for France in 1954, then a vastly greater one for the United States in 1975. Max Hastings has spent the past three years interviewing scores of participants on both sides, as well as researching a multitude of American and Vietnamese documents and memoirs, to create an epic narrative of an epic struggle. He portrays the set pieces of Dienbienphu, the Tet offensive, the air blitz of North Vietnam and less familiar battles such as the bloodbath at Daido.

Insight
Revisado: 05-23-19
Epic telling of the Vietnam war as we know it. It’s origins from colonialism to the ring where communism and democracy met and murdered each other. Read it and learn and know what to say to your politicians so that these crazy occurrences can never be repeated. Let’s hope.

In June 1867, Mark Twain set out for Europe and the Holy Land on the paddle steamer Quaker City. His enduring, no-nonsense guide for the first-time traveler also served as an antidote to the insufferably romantic travel books of the period.

Superb book. Loved it. Mark Twain is a master words smith. His wit, scepticism and honestly is hilarious and wonderful. This book is as relevant and entertaining now as it was in 1869. Maybe even more so now.
