Historia
Blackwater is the saga of a small town, Perdido, Alabama, and Elinor Dammert, the stranger who arrives there under mysterious circumstances on Easter Sunday, 1919. On the surface, Elinor is gracious, charming, anxious to belong in Perdido, and eager to marry Oscar Caskey, the eldest son of Perdido's first family. But her beautiful exterior hides a shocking secret. Beneath the waters of the Perdido River, she turns into something terrifying, a creature whispered about in stories that have chilled the residents of Perdido for generations.

It's truly a Saga
Revisado: 03-08-25
I had forgotten what it is like to read a saga. I've grown accustomed to "quick" punchy stories with lots of action and then it's done. But a Saga tells a story of generations or a complete life. I almost put this down but so glad I didn't. The story is rich in descriptions, full of interesting characters and carries on with a study pace, skipping years at a time when it suited the story.
Highly recommend Blackwater for anyone looking for a Saga. Excellent story.

I love a good horror story
Revisado: 02-03-25
While I don't usually read stories with teenage protagonists, I took a chance on this one and was very surprised. The story line is compelling, the characters believable, and the narrator does a great job. Well worth the read. I will be looking forward to another story by Darcy Coates.

Good Storyline. but...
Revisado: 10-15-24
I liked the story, after all, it's dinosaurs, what's not to like? However, I could not get passed the slow pace of the narration. I tried to increase the speed but that made some characters and narration too fast while some were still agonizingly slow. I'm not criticizing the narrator, or saying you shouldn't give it a listen, I'm only suggesting you listen to a sample first to be sure you're good with the pacing.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Exciting thriller, I couldn't put it down
Revisado: 06-10-24
The story is in true Micheal Crichton form. This final book was brought into the light thanks to Sherri Crichton and James Patterson. It jumps off to a fast start and doesn't stop until the very end. An eruption threatens the big island of Hawaii, as Mac tries to determine when and in what direction the lava will flow, he's pulled away to meet an aging General who's dire warning is written in just 2 words... ice tubb. Mac has no idea who this General is, or why he would become so animated during Mac's televised press conference about the coming eruption, but he's soon draw into the cover up of hazardous materials buried beneath the volcano. They race against time to avoid a catastrophe far worse an the largest magma flow in recorded island history.
Thank you to Sherri Crichton for seeing this book came into the world. Thank you James Patterson for honoring Michael Crichton by finishing this book with such skill as it appears to have been completely written by Micheal Crichton. Well done.

Great Read
Revisado: 06-02-23
This is the first book I've read by this author. As Bigfoot/Yeti stories go, it's one of the best ones out there that I've found. The story itself is written well with believable characters reacting to unusual circumstances. The narration is good, I had no problem following the characters. Yes, there is some corny humor at times, but it fits with the characters. I mean, who hasn't cracked a joke to relieve tension at an inappropriate time. Tim is a brilliant addition to the cast. You've got the devastating earthquake & tsunami, the nearest city thrown into chaos, no one coming to help, and a pack of carnivorous yetis. Why not throw in a self-confessed murderous clown? I love the brief moment you're inside the head of the alpha and she gives inside into their past conflict with humans. If you like Devolution by Max Brooks or Return to Dyatlov Pass by JH Monchrieff, then you'll like this as well. Happy Reading!

Historia
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Don't use headphones.
Revisado: 07-26-22
This is one of my favorite stories. I love the book, it's well-written, goes into great detail. I've read it several times I find it hard to put the book down. I had been debating on this purchase because of some of the reviews. I finally couldn't resist anymore. Mr. King does a decent job at reading.
Sadly, the reviews that complained of the music and sound effects were right. The added musical effects were annoying at least, overwhelming at points. But when Ace Merrill heads to Castle Rock, any reading of his arrival is preceeded with a very loud, very annoying car reving and loud music. If I had been listening to Needful Things with headphones, as I frequently do, it would have jeopardized my hearing, it is that loud. Completely unnecessary. Sometimes the sound effects drown out the story. They ruined the story and that's very hard for me to say.

Better than Expected
Revisado: 03-19-22
A fast paced eco thriller about Bats carrying viruses that transmit deadly illnesses to humans and the fight by Animal Activists to save every precious bat. I had read The Hot Zone and I was afraid this might follow that style, a lot of scientific jargon that would leave the story dry and at points, dull. I'm happy to say I was surprised with this story. The plot was good, the characters well thought out, the narration well done, Kristen Price did a great job.
I highly recommend this if you love eco thrillers.

Etchison's fiction is justly famous for its creepy ambience, and explores the terrain mapped out by Philip K. Dick, Thomas Harris, and any number of black and white horror movies. This is his legendary first collection, carefully corrected by the author for this new edition. The title story won both the World Fantasy Award and the British Fantasy Award in 1982, the first time a single work received both major awards. Contents include 16 groundbreaking stories and an introduction by Ramsey Campbell.

Old School Horror
Revisado: 02-15-22
I enjoyed this collection of old school horror short stories. If you're looking for violence and gore, this is not your book. It's more in the tradition of Hitchcock than Stephen King. Well written, well preformed.

Left feeling unfinished
Revisado: 01-24-22
While the storyline was good and the characters felt real, I was very disappointed with the abrupt ending. The ending was a cliffhanger and the book did not feel complete. Unfortunately I will not be reading any more of this author's books as I don't like cliffhanger endings. While this trend is becoming popular with some writers, it isn't with me. You may feel different, in that case I would recommend the book. I felt robbed and held hostage until I purchase the next in the series. I love a good series, especially a natural disaster series, but each book in the series should stand on its own and wrap up its own plot points while maintaining an overall series arc. And that's what this book fails to do. I wanted so badly to enjoy this book, it had such a good start.

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Believable plot, well formed characters and a great setting. Will be looking forward to listening to another Rick Chesler story. The narrator, Dan Delgado, did an excellent job at portraying the characters and reading the fast paced book. Will be looking for his narration again.
