Historia
On a snowy winter evening in 1982, 21-year-old Mary Brown accepted a ride from a handsome stranger in the resort town of Breckenridge, Colorado. The trip ended with her brutally beaten and raped. Mary survived, but her predator's violence had only just begun. After 10 years in prison, Tom Luther was released a far more vicious criminal. Soon, from the Rockies to West Virginia, like Ted Bundy, Luther enticed a chain of women into his murderous trap.

Historia
Cody Hoyt, while a brilliant cop, is an alcoholic struggling with two months of sobriety when his mentor and AA sponsor Hank Winters is found burned to death in a remote mountain cabin. At first it looks like the suicide of a man who's fallen off the wagon, but Cody knows Hank better than that. Sober for fourteen years, Hank took pride in his hard-won sobriety and never hesitated to drop whatever he was doing to talk Cody off a ledge. When Cody takes a closer look at the scene of his friend's death, it becomes apparent that foul play is at hand.

Revisado: 08-16-21
the story was nothing spectacular. it was most interesting in tellingof Yellowstone itself. the author has a solid writing style it's just the story came out predictable for me and i only finished out of a compulsion to complete. no insults meant it could just be I've read too many books in the genre.
performance was overall great.
Holter has a great way of creating identifiable voices and they sound appropriate for each character, with only a few mispronunciations of words.

Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Society's mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within.

I'm not going to make a speech, but...
Revisado: 05-15-17
What made the experience of listening to Morning Star the most enjoyable?
The fullness of the characters, the reward of finishing the story and its completeness
What was one of the most memorable moments of Morning Star?
There are several memorable moments within Morning Star, all of which have deeper implications upon the story and characters. I fear spoiling any of this excellent story by describing anything in detail. Though the part where Darrow and Sevro return to a point of love within their friendship saved the book for me.
Which scene was your favorite?
Let's just say it has to do with a hanging or two
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Forsaking class, race and family to save humanity from itself.
Any additional comments?
The one thing that absolutely bothered me is when Darrow is about to enter combat he always has to have a speech. The worst was when he started "I don't have a speech today" and then launches into a speech about not telling a speech. There are many points for him being so prolific with speeches, but it was the most identifiable issue I had with what otherwise is an amazing series/book.

Historia
Troika tells the story of men and women confronting an enigma known as the Matryoshka, a vast alien construct whose periodic appearances have generated terror, wonder, and endless debate. During its third "apparition" in a remote corner of the galaxy, a trio of Russian cosmonauts approach this enigma and attempt to penetrate its mysteries. What they discover - and what they endure in the process - forms the centerpiece of an enthralling, constantly surprising narrative.

Short, yet deep
Revisado: 04-13-17
If you could sum up Troika in three words, what would they be?
Short, yet deep
What other book might you compare Troika to and why?
The Rama series for the discovery of an object within a reasonably reachable distance from earth, being explored by humans in the hopes of understanding the universe.
Have you listened to any of Wayne June’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I am uncertain that I have previously, but I will seek him out in the future
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The reaction I would ascribe is the dilation of thought to include a concept that I have not often explored. A bit of laughing in hysteria and crying in realization.
Any additional comments?
Being an Alastair Reynolds fan, the only reason I hadn't listened to this previously is that it was so short. Today I found myself with the right amount of time to enjoy this story in one sitting. While the amount of content may seem light, the implications and the amount of thought put into it are nigh boundless. I hope that he comes back to this universe, even in short, episodic bursts, again soon!

Historia
In Brian Paone's first novel, he chronicles the trials and tribulations of befriending a modern-day rock star. As a die-hard fan of the rock band God Lives Underwater, Brian wins the trust of lead singer David Reilly. This honor comes with its own set of extreme personal highs and devastating shared lows. During their tumultuous friendship, David fights an extreme battle with drug abuse and depression. Pile on top of all this the throes of a cutthroat music industry and the realization of one's own mortality.

From Idol to Friend to Family
Revisado: 04-12-17
What made the experience of listening to Dreams Are Unfinished Thoughts the most enjoyable?
The depths at which the author/narrator was willing to plumb his experiences and share them with the listener
Who was your favorite character and why?
It would be easy to say David or Brian, as they're interactions are so stark throughout the book, but I would choose Seven. Seven's barely glanced life provides one of the deepest tragedies within the entirety of the book and the unraveling of what really happened to her and how each layer of this affected David is engrossing.
What does Brian Paone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
There are bits of audio clipped from radio interviews, shows and recorded material that would not transpose to a printed format
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Bringing an idol to earth
Any additional comments?
Imagine meeting an idol and they don't just treat you as a fan, but instead allow you into their life.
This story is a glimpse into the Industrial Music Industry, combined with the in-depth story behind the Lead Singer of the band God Lives Underwater, while also delving into an abstract view of the affects of addiction and the musical growth of Brian Paone.
If you have ever been into industrial, known some one afflicted with addiction or even interested in the story of a fan getting to know and befriend an Idol this is worth your time. I would suggest listening to it, not just for Brian's smooth voice, but for the music, recorded audio and other nuances that make this so engrossing.

A poignant peek into the world of creation
Revisado: 08-27-16
Prison systems base future building plans on the literacy rates of 11 year olds. I'm Still listening to it. That's a paraphrased portion of Neil's introduction to, View From The Cheap Seats. A lot of it is his speeches, book introductions and the like, focusing on reading, writing, authors, comic books, novels, movies and his experiences in working in and with those people and things. It's quite remarkable, but fair warning if you pay attention, your reading queue will expand exponentially. I have it on audible and will share it with anyone who wants to hear it read by him (his voice and commentary being an experience of its own). Huh, I've just written my review.

Revisado: 04-23-16
What made the experience of listening to Locke & Key the most enjoyable?
The characters and script were fully realized and rendered. Truly a remarkable experience.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Locke & Key?
it is hard not to spoil some of the horror and beauty of this story, but there are so many quotable moments that make it memorable
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
They really hit what I pictured the characters sounding like from the Graphic Novels
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I pretty much did.
Any additional comments?
I have read the graphic novels 3 times and I was considering re-reading them again, when this performance went on sale. It is as good as the graphic novels in their own way. I will probably listen to this while reading the graphic novels simultaneously soon.

Historia
The Seven Cities Rebellion has been crushed. Sha’ik is dead. One last rebel force remains, holed up in the city of Y’Ghatan and under the fanatical command of Leoman of the Flails. The prospect of laying siege to this ancient fortress makes the battle-weary Malazan Fourteenth Army uneasy. For it was here that the Empire’s greatest champion, Dassem Ultor, was slain and a tide of Malazan blood spilled. A place of foreboding, its smell is of death. But elsewhere, agents of a far greater conflict have made their opening moves.

Such an amazing story, marred with bad reading
Revisado: 08-27-15
It is great to hear the continuing story of FitzChivalry Farseer and his daughter Bee. The story is well written and fulfilling.
When I was considering the purchase, I read several reviews warning of Elliott Hills performance, I thought maybe they were somehow mistaken. His reading of the first book was mostly solid, with an occasional slip on his voices, as if he'd taken a break and took some sentences to get back into the proper cadences. In this, the second book, his performance is much worse. From a Fool who sounds like the Cookie Monster, to the mixing of other characters voices, making one character sound like another, with only a keen ear to the context preventing confusion. Even characters from the same region having different accents or complete variations on how the characters speak also making it difficult to listen. The Fool and Shade bring the worst. I hope that he either practices better care in his speech in the third book or they find some one else to do it.
