OK, but I prefer his Autobiography

Any additional comments?

As a curious Australian, I have only fairly recently discovered how interesting early American history is. This overview is quick and helpful but I found Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography (not an Encyclopedia Britannica publication as far as I know) to be more generally interesting, and a better place for the novice to start.

What did you like best about this story?

Ann Patchett's open and humourous story of her life and love life is refreshingly frank, brutally honest, sincere, and so understandable that it got me in even though it's not by type of genre. The poignant ending was well written.

What does Ann Patchett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her narration gives excellent emphasis and clarity.

A nice freebie

Economic Warfare US Style- Beggar Thy Neighbour

Would you listen to Confessions of an Economic Hitman again? Why?

Yes. Because it accurately exposes what the USA really gets up to in the world. This is much more important to listen to than all the sanitised rubbish in the popular press.

What three words best describe Brian Emerson’s voice?

Good but a little too negative, a tad grating at times.

If you could give Confessions of an Economic Hitman a new subtitle, what would it be?

Come into my parlour said the international banking spider to the 3rd world country fly.

Any additional comments?

An interesting and fairly erudite introduction to the real world of international relations. Perkins pulls no punches and it is an easy book to listen to. His writing style is reasonable, not grand, but after all this is non-fiction.Economic warfare has an interesting entry on Wikipedia under Unrestricted Warfare, a 1999 book by 2 Chinese colonels. The colonels however have reinvented the wheel, as the USA has been doing this for decades and are grand masters of this game. He indicates they learnt the trade from the English who were doing it to the original 13 US colonies, though with less subtle means. International vampirism is alive and well.We all know that banks like to give people more credit card limits than they can afford- they like to keep them desperate and poor, so multinational firms and banks do to entire countries. They bluff them into biting off more than they can chew, on credit and then choking on it. This is an ongoing cycle and Perkins new book Hoodwinked carries the story on to the GFC and the beggaring of Iceland etc.

Mind blowing

What can I say? You don't understand history if you don't understand Genghis. Particularly you don't know Middle Age to Modern, Asian, Indian or Islamic history, the history of ideas and inventions, how fate saved Japan (similar to how the Spanish Armada was dashed). Did the West eventually stop his successors? More likely the black plague did.
This is a wonderful book indeed, based on some recently discovered archeological records (Secret Histories), since the Soviets left Mongolia. A stimulating and exciting tale, with plenty of variety.
Highly recommended.

Fairly extreme spiritual views

If you like TV evangelism etc this could be the right book for you. Read carefully about it before purchase as it is a niche product.
The author, a doctor, was a compulsive eater who basically realised she was eating for no real reason, certainly not hunger, and used spiritual belief and prayer to turn herself around.
Not for everyone, but ideal for those looking for something in this niche genre.

Never dull. This is a very practical hands on spiritual summary of the Course in Miracles, a really amazing psychological review of Christian spiritual principles. When you listen to it, you know it's good, and right and works.

Nice succint summaries

Good summaries of many significant books. This quickly allowed me to learn a lot of interesting things from many books and later focus on a few of far greater relevance to my personal needs. It greatly exceeded my expectations. Great value. I found his earthy voice quite expressive and easy to follow.

The author is highly qualified and is also a very good hypnotist. (Having seen 2 hypnotists in years gone by for smoking cessation, I can comment from experience). He is very soothing and consistent, calm and methodical, has a clear game plan (though he does not road map that, it is obvious enough).
He does pin point a number of common issues which cause emotional eating and systematically deals with each of them.
I'd guess this is as good as it gets.
