So far the series has been a lot of fun. The MC is genuinely enjoyable the entire time and the story has nice progression.

A Solid Start

A solid start to a new series. If you're a fan of "The Land" it follows a similar track and works with similar world building. Some truly dark parts in the beginning of the story.

A worthy set of stories

Not as enthralling as one of the main stories but still a fun romp through the Dresden universe. It's always a bit unsettling to have characters that you've heard voiced by a single narrator (Marsters is Dresden as far as I'm concerned) but the only time it really got to me was the first story which followed Anastasia. I wasn't the biggest fan of her short story either so that may have had a bit to do with it. That was countered by Larry Correia who I enjoyed in the Grimnoir Chronicles and thought handled his story rather well.
The short of it, if you like the Dresden Files you'll like this set of stories.

Surprisingly Better

I thought the first book was ok. The concept of telling the story from the dungeon's point of view was neat. I had reservations about how it would carry on through the series. I was happily surprised by how the plot grew. Now I am on to the third book and enjoying the series without reservation.
I have to hand it to Vikas, he does a great job bouncing back and forth from character to character. For me a great book (audiobook) can be ruined by a lackluster narrator.

Some Character Flaws

The story is enjoyable and the narrator delivers it well. There are added sound effects to add to the LITRPG feel of the series which can be either a pro or a con depending on how you look at it. The only thing that every really gets me is the occasional douchy nature of the main character. If you can live with that the book is a lot of fun.

I wouldn't say that it is a literary master work but it is fun and comfortable with what it is. The narrator does a great job and the sound effects punctuate what the author was trying to accomplish. I look forward to the rest of the series.

The Monster Hunter world is still alive in this book. Larry had a great idea in using Franks as the main character, giving the reader (listener) another perspective to color in this universe.
What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?
