Richard Sharpe Never Disappoints
Revisado: 05-04-25
I always appreciate Sharpe's ability to anticipate what to expect and be able (no matter the conseqience) to survive the most horrible and seemingly hopeless situations especially when facing the certainty of death. I always enjoy the amazing works of Bernard Cornwell, as his writing never fails to keep me interested and engaged.

Historia
In the heart of Elizabethan England, Richard Shakespeare dreams of a glittering career in one of the London playhouses, a world dominated by his older brother, William. But he is a penniless actor, making ends meet through a combination of a beautiful face, petty theft, and a silver tongue. As William's star rises, Richard's onetime gratitude is souring, and he is sorely tempted to abandon family loyalty.

Surprised
Revisado: 04-23-25
Because I enjoy the works of Bernard Cornwell I decided to try this book. Although it was considerably different from the Cornwell books I have listened to, it was surprisingly interesting, amusing (at times) and insightful.

not for me
Revisado: 12-17-24
Disliked how confusing I found the entire story line. Perhaps I should stick with novels based on historical facts.

Historia
In The Angel Of Darkness, Caleb Carr brings back the vivid world of his bestselling The Alienist but with a twist: this story is told by the former street urchin Stevie Taggert, whose rough life has given him wisdom beyond his years. Thus New York City, and the groundbreaking alienist Dr. Kreizler himself, are seen anew. It is June 1897. A year has passed since Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a pioneer in forensic psychiatry, tracked down the brutal serial killer John Beecham with the help of a team of trusted companions and a revolutionary application of the principles of his discipline.

Unbelievable
Revisado: 10-01-20
Even in my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined how unbelievably twisted this angel appeared to be. The title couldn't be more true. The story is beyond gripping from start to finish. A truly major,, psychological thriller. This book begins where the Alienist left off. This was well met by the author.

Echoes of the Thin Man
Revisado: 10-01-20
This book was delightfully charming as the 2 main characters so reminded me of one of my favorite movie couples- Nick and Nora Charles of the famed Thin Man movie series with their first movie debuting in 1934. The story was intriguing, amusing and thoughtful. Enjoyed it very much.

Grave Disappointment
Revisado: 10-01-20
Extremely superfluous. Constantly having to remind myself of what the main point or theme of each paragraph was supposed to be. Definitely had the impression the author was trying to fill up her pages. All in all...very disappointing.
