Historia
Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective in literary history. For the first time since the death of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a new Holmes story has been sanctioned by his estate, whetting the appetites of fans everywhere. Information about the book will be revealed as deliberately as Holmes himself would unravel a knotty case, but bestselling novelist and Holmes expert Anthony Horowitz is sure to bring a compelling, atmospheric story to life.

Good book. Plot was a little complicated, but the ending was satisfying. I recommended it.

Historia
Mrs. Packington felt alone, helpless, and utterly forlorn. But her life changed when she stumbled upon an advertisement in the Times that read: "Are you happy? If not, consult Mr. Parker Pyne." Equally adept at putting together the fragments of a murder mystery or the pieces of a broken marriage, Mr. Parker Pyne is possibly the world's most unconventional private investigator. Armed with just his intuitive knowledge of human nature, he is an Englishman abroad, traveling the globe to solve and undo crime and misdemeanor.

Pleasant read
Revisado: 03-15-21
The character of Parker Pyne is clever and serene, but reading the vignettes became monotonous if I listened to long, and the tone of Pyne's voice was almost a sedative. I found it best to listen to 2 stories at one sitting. I did like like the character, but this will be a 1 time read.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 05-31-19
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It kept my attention from start to finish. At first, I admit, Poirot's character read darker than I was used to. I can't explain why. And I wasn't sure about Catchpool (he's NO Hastings!). But the further I progressed in the story, the more accustomed I got. I was totally befuddled about everything by the end, like Catchpool. I loved how Poirot was like the string leading out of the maze, guiding the reader through the mystery.

Historia
The crime-fighting careers of Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings have come full circle—they are back once again in the rambling country house in which they solved their first murder together. Both Hercule Poirot and Great Styles have seen better days—but, despite being crippled with arthritis, there is nothing wrong with the great detective and his “little gray cells.” However, when Poirot brands one of the seemingly harmless guests a five-time murderer, some people have their doubts. But Poirot alone knows he must prevent a sixth murder before the curtain falls.

A very macabre story. Won't be reading it again. Poirot was not himself in this. And I do appreciate the wrap up in the last chapter, but during the whole story, I just had a feeling that Agatha Christie was sick and tired of Poirot and was determined to make this the final book.

Well, it's no wonder. The plot - suspicion for an elderly woman's murder falls on her mysterious lodger - is from Agatha Christie. The wonderful character happens to be the world's most famous sleuth, Hercule Poirot.

This was quite an enjoyable book! The best part was Poirot's tortuous stay at the Somerhay Inn. His "suffering" had me laughing so hard my stomach hurt! And I loved his interactions with Ariadne Oliver! This was a good! one

Historia
A beautiful heiress has been found dead on a train. A playboy has been stabbed through the heart during a costume ball. An elderly woman suspects that she is being slowly poisoned to death. A prince fears for his reputation when his fiancée is embroiled in another man's murder. A forgotten recluse makes headlines after he is shot in the head. Who but Agatha Christie could concoct such canny crimes? Who but Belgian detective Hercule Poirot could possibly solve them? It's a challenge to be met - in a triumph of detection.

I absolutely love the short stories of Hercule Poirot, especially the earlier years with Captain Hastings. It's really nice to read about Hercule Poirot's antics in vignettes, rather than reading a novel where Poirot doesn't even appear until halfway through.

Historia
In appearance Hercule Poirot hardly resembled an ancient Greek hero. Yet, reasoned the detective, like Hercules, he had been responsible for ridding society of some of its most unpleasant monsters. So, in the period leading up to his retirement, Poirot makes up his mind to accept just 12 more cases: his self-imposed "Labors". Each would go down in the annals of crime as a heroic feat of deduction.

Historia
Beautiful Caroline Crale was convicted of poisoning her husband, but just like the nursery rhyme, there were five other "little pigs" who could have done it: Philip Blake (the stockbroker), who went to market; Meredith Blake (the amateur herbalist), who stayed at home; Elsa Greer (the three-time divorcee), who had her roast beef; Cecilia Williams (the devoted governess), who had none; and Angela Warren (the disfigured sister), who cried all the way home.
Sixteen years later, Caroline's daughter is determined to prove her mother's innocence.

A great read!
Revisado: 01-17-19
I'm working my way through the Poirot novels, and most (not all) of the previous started running together in cookie-cutter fashion. I didn't mind listening, but they sounded the same. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The perspective was interesting: to solve a case 16 yrs old, a true cold case mystery. I was invested in the characters, they didn't bore me. I had a genuine curiosity about Poirot's use of his "order and method" to put the puzzle together from both objective and subjective sources. As for the whodunit, it made sense, but the punishment was....bittersweet. A little more bitter than I wanted. But I love when I'm still thinking of the ending even after I've finished.

Historia
Beautiful young Elinor Carlisle stood serenely in the dock, accused of the murder of Mary Gerrard, her rival in love. The evidence was damning: only Elinor had the motive, the opportunity, and the means to administer the fatal poison. Yet, inside the hostile courtroom, only one man still presumed Elinor was innocent until proven guilty: Hercule Poirot was all that stood between Elinor and the gallows.

Meh, so-so
Revisado: 01-05-19
I will always love reading Hercule Poirot, but the further along I progress in the canon of literature, the fewer I truly enjoy. This is yet another novel where Poirot doesn't have a significant role, which always annoys me. Without spoiling anything, there's a climactic court scene at the end. I was expecting my man to strut with his usual pomp and circumstance, unmasking the killer with a flourish. Nope. His reveal was in a boring conversation with a love-struck character. But, I did enjoy the narrator. Not as much as Hugh Fraser, but good.
