Great book, but that's easy, as I love Terry Pratchett and the disc series anyway.
The new narration is excellent and I think Indira Varma did a good job of giving the book life.
Highly recommend.

Historia
The Discworld is in danger, heading towards a seemingly inevitable collision with a malevolent red star, its magic fading. It needs a hero, and fast. What it doesn't need is Rincewind, an inept and cowardly wizard who is still recovering from the trauma of falling off the edge of the world. Or Twoflower, the well-meaning tourist whose luggage has a mind (and legs) of its own.

Really enjoyed
Revisado: 08-11-22
After reading a lot of the discworld books when I was younger, I find the new audio books very enjoyable.
I have only one minor criticism. I find that some of the characters voices are sometimes hard to understand. I'm not necessarily blaming the narrator, as english is a second language to me and most of my listening is done while driving, so it could be just me. Anyway, I still recommend!

Historia
In the popular imagination, superhuman artificial intelligence is an approaching tidal wave that threatens not just jobs and human relationships, but civilization itself. Conflict between humans and machines is seen as inevitable and its outcome all too predictable. In this groundbreaking audiobook, distinguished AI researcher Stuart Russell argues that this scenario can be avoided, but only if we rethink AI from the ground up. Russell begins by exploring the idea of intelligence in humans and in machines.

Interesting subject. book was meh
Revisado: 08-01-22
This book has 2 major failings, for me at least.
First of all the narration felt like I was lectured to, but not in the good way. I would much rather have the narration be dryer, made it a real slog to get through.
The other thing that bothered me is what felt like a logical fail regarding a general purpose AI abilities.
on the one hand it will be more intelligent than a human, but on the other it wouldn't be intelligent enough to discern human emotions, thus making potentially critical errors.
Overall it's still a good book, but I really struggled with finishing it.

In July 1969, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins piloted the Apollo 11 spacecraft to the moon. Fifty years later, it is still one of the greatest achievements in human history. In this remarkable memoir, a defining classic, Michael Collins conveys, in a very personal way, the drama, beauty, and humour of that adventure.

Very human and very accessible book.
I love space exploration, especially the early years.
Michael Collins gives a very down to earth (pun intended) telling of his adventures while at NASA.

Painfully PG-13
Revisado: 08-19-19
I loved the Bobiverse and I think this made my expectations to be too high.
My main gripe was it felt childish, it went out of it's way not to use "hard" language, it was full of tropes and was all well that ends well.
The writing and performance are still good, I wasn't bored, just underwhelmed.
Bottom line, if you like soft sci-fi, non challenging, feel good listen - this is for you.

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

Revisado: 07-23-19
This sounded to me like listening to a HS student essay.
I can save you the time listening to this:
John Houbolt was a poor farm boy, he became an engineer for NACA/NASA. Not everybody liked him.
He thought LOR (Lunar Orbit Randevue) was a good idea for Apollo, he broke rank to fight for it.
His ideas were accepted, he got recognition for it.
Maybe he felt he didn't get enough, although he kinda did.
He was a great man, we could all be more like him.
Now seriously, Houbolt wasn't the first to think of LOR and he wasn't the only thinking it was the right way.
He was influencal in the early stages of planing the moon mission, but wasn't really involved after that.
Listening to this you could think that without him the moon missions could not be done!
Another thing that bother me about this book is the premise of a big debate on how to get to the moon.
It is inferred that the convention was doing it by direct accent and a minority was think that LOR was the right way.
This is the fundamental aspect of the book, but it doesn't explore any of that! There were some meetings, not all the people agreed with John, more likely because he wasn't an easy man, eventually LOR was chosen as the best option - That's what the book tells us summerized to one sentence.
Give this one a pass...

"Houston, we've had a problem here." On the evening of April 13, 1970, the three astronauts aboard Apollo 13 were just hours from the third lunar landing in history. But as they soared through space, two hundred thousand miles from earth, an explosion badly damaged their spacecraft. With compromised engines and failing life-support systems, the crew was in incomparably grave danger.

This book is short and dry.

This book was fine, it gave some nice information.
This book isn't overly technical, but also isn't very dramatic.

Famed investigative journalist Eric Schlosser digs deep to uncover secrets about the management of America's nuclear arsenal. A groundbreaking account of accidents, near misses, extraordinary heroism, and technological breakthroughs, Command and Control explores the dilemma that has existed since the dawn of the nuclear age: How do you deploy weapons of mass destruction without being destroyed by them? That question has never been resolved - and Schlosser reveals how the combination of human fallibility and technological complexity still poses a grave risk to mankind.

Geart book for lovers of history of the cold war/atomic arms race and in general.
It meticulous and detailed, but not overbearing or overly technical.
My only gripe with this book is only using imperial units. I am aware that the target audiance is mostly american (which I'm not), but in this day and age it feels odd.

Revisado: 08-22-17
My opinion - don't get it audio form.
The book, I felt, was meandering. It jumps from the main story to anecdotes and side stories far to often.
This was compounded by the fact that pacing of the read was way to fast! It felt breathless, just an onslaught of information.
But worst of all was the imperial measurments. I expected more from Bill Hammack. Maybe, if this book was more story/drama oriented book, but this is loaded with technical data. I know this is a general audiance book, and I know it was written in America, and I know 1930s Britain used well... imperial measurments, but it felt wrong and anachronistic to not include metric.
So get this book in hard form, make your self a nice cup of tea, and read it as it should.

In August 1968 NASA made a bold decision: In just 16 weeks, the United States would launch humankind's first flight to the moon. Only the year before, three astronauts had burned to death in their spacecraft, and since then the Apollo program had suffered one setback after another. Meanwhile, the Russians were winning the space race, the Cold War was getting hotter by the month, and President Kennedy's promise to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade seemed sure to be broken.

An OK book for the uninitiatet
Revisado: 06-15-17
The good:
Has lots of information about the early space program.
Is reasonably entertaining.
The bad:
Felt to me be overly american/patriotic.
The intermitent use of accents and voices, by the narrator, was not good.
The meh...:
This book didn't left me with strong emotions and I didn't find myself attached to the events.
Overall it's an OK book, baut maybe not for the hardcore space history buff.
