Historia
At the age of forty-eight, Cicero—the greatest orator of his time—is in exile, separated from his wife and children, tormented by his sense of failure, his great power sacrificed on the altar of his principles. And yet, in the words of one of his most famous aphorisms, “While there is life, there is hope.”

Was he a brilliant principled statesman or a canny politician? The twists and turns of his life and fate tell a fascinating historical story and a very modern one. I have really enjoyed this trilogy.

Historia
If there’s one thing detective Bath Peter Diamond has no patience for, it’s a dumb git trying to get involved in one of his investigations - for example, a Philip Marlowe-wannabe private investigator like the self-styled Johnny Getz. But fate has saddled Diamond with this trial. A Bath antiques dealer, “Seppy” Hubbard, has disappeared without a trace, and his daughter has hired Getz to find him. When a body is discovered in Seppy’s locked-up store, the missing persons case becomes a murder investigation, and now Diamond has to collaborate with the insufferable private eye.

Revisado: 10-03-23
At first I was put off by Johnny and a different , but Ina few chaptersI was hooked and amused. I.have come to love this bumbling but ultimately gracious detective Peter Diamond and put aside his books for those times when I want something special to read.

Thank you so much for bringing out the work of this classic spy novelist. I have enjoyed her books for many years and missed seeing them in Audible. I think this is one of her better books, and I found the narrator to be a good choice. I am looking forward to the other books in this series.

Reading short stories is an effective and fun way to learn Italian! It’s as simple as it sounds. Read a story, learn new vocabulary, discover a country from within … and enjoy! This short novel is created and imagined for beginners and learners taking their first steps into Italian. It is much more than a study book … because it isn’t one! It is a story based on a real experience, the true story of an Italian young woman named Sara. She lives an average life, fights her battles, dreams, works, and shapes her future with her own hands.

Great Book for Beginners, would like a text
Revisado: 05-29-20
This is a great book for beginners at the A1/A2 level, or even B1. Who expects great literature at this level of the language? --the story is credible and somewhat humorous, managing to bring in lots of everyday vocabulary. The reader is clear and there is a lot of repetition of common somewhat idiomatic expressions. It would be nice to have a .pdf of the text as there is with some other Italian stories for beginners sold in Audible format.

Would love to hear another reader
Revisado: 12-21-19
I really enjoy hearing about the Cork O'Connor world and its perspective on environmental, native American and law enforcement issues. However, the story often seems contrived and as another reviewer said, there are gaps in it. I keep wondering if I would enjoy this more with a different narrator. I find David Chandler's pacing and dry, uninflected voice pretty uninspiring, so my mind wanders into thinking about plot inconsistencies!

Story and Narration, Spot On!
Revisado: 06-04-19
I laughed and laughed out loud, I shed a few tears. This is one of the few books I have recommended to my husband to read. It is also the first time that I have insisted that he listen to the Audible performance. I look at the world in a different way, re evaluate some of my interactions with people, after listening to it. I'm sorry to read from reader reviews that the sequels disappointed somewhat, but it is not surprising: this book would be a hard one to follow.

To make things worse, Liz is the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard who is drawn into the investigation. Is it just a missing person or something worse? And what relevance do the events around the shocking Girl F case, so taken up by Knight, have to do with the present? The truth is darker than you could ever have imagined.

Satisfying puzzle, wraps up nicely
Revisado: 01-23-19
This was a totally enjoyable police procedural. Many new wrinkles based on current science. The narrator's style fit the personality of the main detective, and he was good at representing other characters. I enjoyed the plot and its twists as the several lines of investigation moved along. I could nit-pick about a few character inconsistencies, but I had just too much fun listening to worry about them very much. Looking forward to more from this author and narrator.

Historia
DCI Warren Jones has a bad feeling when the body of a young woman turns up in Beaconsfield Woods. She’s been raped and strangled but the murderer has been careful to leave no DNA evidence. There are, of course, suspects - boyfriend, father - to check out but, worryingly, it looks more and more like a stranger murder. Warren’s worst fears are confirmed when another young woman is killed in the same way. The MO fits that of Richard Cameron who served 12 years for rape. But Cameron never killed his victims and he has a cast-iron alibi.

This second book in the DCI Warren Jones series is better than the first, which I also found to be quite enjoyable. The plotting is a bit tighter and the characters are more interesting. I hope Audible will eventually provide us with all of the books in this series.

Good start to a series
Revisado: 07-11-16
At first, some of the reader's mannerisms were distracting and I almost stopped listening, but as the story developed the narration even out and I think Cronin did a credible job, except for a few of the women's voices. All in all, it was a great story, but there were a couple of inconsistencies that still leave me scratching my head. I found the main character Gibson Vaughn to be a likable hero and the plot twists intriguing enough so that I want to hear more about him.

Historia
Two spellbinding mysteries, one contemporary, and one ancient - that will challenge Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James as no case ever has. Glastonbury is a town revered as the mythical burial place of King Arthur, and, according to New Age followers, a source of strong Druid power. Something terrible and bloody shattered Glastonbury Abbey's peace long ago - and now it is about to spark a violence that will reach forward into the present.

Fascinating approach to history, but....
Revisado: 01-17-16
I was fascinated by the interweaving of historical facts, centuries-old myths, and new-age interpretations with traditional detective story elements. Next trip to the United Kingdom will definitely include Glastonbury!
On the whole, however, I got tired of jumping from one plot line to another, particularly towards the end. I agree with those who have found the narrator somewhat lacking. She was perfect for the historical voices and descriptive passages, but not for the present-day male voices and general dialogue.
