Good premise, too many plot holes, cliffhanger end

Total

Just like the title says. The premise was good, but too many silly plot holes (the fabricator can make anything, but not a weapon? No one thought to include a weapon? The children can know what a horse looks like, but not what an earth full moon night looks like? Silly things, but come on). The book ends abruptly on a too be confined cliffhanger. That means the next one will too. It's a three book series that should be one more tightly edited book.

Liked it a lot at the beginning & then again at the end, but the bulk of it was just right scene after right scene which got boring. Still engaging story, great narration.

Sci fi without wars

I just wanted some sci to that wasn't all wars, interstellar battles or YA fiction. This fit the bill. The protagonist does get a bit bothersome, there are some cliches, but it's end of the world done in a quieter, more contemplative way. Not a fabulous book, but I'm a getting a little tired of military space thrillers, grimdark monotony, YA books and rehashed that anything a bit more character based and written for an adult is refreshing. Plus, loved the narrator. Can anyone recommend science based sci to that isn't military and has some original premises????

Refreshingly different than most new SF

Loved the way he handled multiverse. Pretty good character and world dev. Best though, it's unique. Differentiated everything else I've read lately, and I'm a full grown 54 year old adult. Appreciate sci fi that's not also YA.

A beautifully written fantasy with the feel of a fairy tale. Characters developed enough to relate to but not buried in minutiae. Enough space to allow your own imagination to enter and enrich the tale. You know the people and place by what they do and say as part of the story, rather than being told that this is what the character is like or worse hAving another charActer tell you. As for the narration: I had a hard time at the start. But give it just a bit of time. It ends up enhancing the mood, the sense of time and place. A lovely diversion.
