Historia
Immerse yourself in the vanished world inhabited by Jane Austen's contemporaries. Packed with detail and anecdotes, this is an intimate exploration of how the middle and upper classes lived from 1775, the year of Austen's birth, to the coronation of George IV in 1820. Sue Wilkes skillfully conjures up all aspects of daily life within the period, drawing on contemporary diaries, illustrations, letters, novels, travel literature, and archives.

Historia
On April 10, 1834, firefighters smashed through a padlocked attic door in the burning Royal Street mansion of Creole society couple Delphine and Louis Lalaurie. In the billowing smoke and flames they made an appalling discovery: the remains of Madame Lalaurie's chained, starved, and mutilated slaves. This house of horrors in the French Quarter spawned a legend that has endured for more than 150 years. But what actually happened in the Lalaurie home? Rumors about her atrocities spread as fast as the fire. But verifiable facts were scarce.

Bayou St George!!!??
Revisado: 07-13-23
This is the usual story presented.
But the authors have totally ruined their credibility by identifying Bayou St. John as Bayou St. “George,” which has never existed in New Orleans.
The only part that presents anything new is the “timeline.” Accurate? I doubt it—considering. Reader’s voice is awful and adds to the juvenile quality of this version.

Inspirational and heartwarming. Good to hear about handler’s dedication to her in this current time of so much horrible treatment of dogs. Good girl!

Historia
In The Art of the English Murder, Lucy Worsley explores this phenomenon in forensic detail, revisiting notorious crimes like the Ratcliff Highway Murders, which caused a nationwide panic in the early 19th century, and the case of Frederick and Maria Manning, the suburban couple who were hanged after killing Maria's lover and burying him under their kitchen floor. Our fascination with crimes like these became a form of national entertainment, inspiring novels and plays, prose and paintings, poetry and true-crime journalism.

These lectures exemplify today's golden age of medieval scholarship, in which the role women played in medieval life is being clarified for the first time.

The narrator’s voice was irritating as she sounded like a teenager pretending to have an accent. The story was as expected, nothing new, so historical fiction fans won’t be surprised.

Why did the flushing toilet take two centuries to catch on? Why did medieval people sleep sitting up? When were the two "dirty centuries?" Why did gas lighting cause Victorian ladies to faint? Why, for centuries, did rich people fear fruit? In her brilliantly and creatively researched book, Lucy Worsley takes us through the bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchen.

In Foundation the chronicler of London and of its river, the Thames, takes us from the primeval forests of England's prehistory to the death of the first Tudor king, Henry VII, in 1509. He guides us from the building of Stonehenge to the founding of the two great glories of medieval England: common law and the cathedrals. He shows us glimpses of the country's most distant past - a Neolithic stirrup found in a grave, a Roman fort, a Saxon tomb, a medieval manor house.

Good history. Reader drones.
Revisado: 03-10-18
Enjoyed the story but i love English history in any form. The reader has a distinctive drone that I find quite irritating and almost painful. I will not listen to anything he reads in the future.
