Historia
When a remote camera on a large, rugged expanse held by the Land Trust for Wildlife Conservation picks up a blurry image of what could be a mountain caribou, they contact Alex Carter to investigate. After all, mountain caribou went extinct in the contiguous U.S. years ago, and if one has wandered down from Canada, it’s monumental.

Again the narrator is simply one of the very best. i enjoy following the maturing of the main character as she develops and changes through each progressive novel. i also am learning more of the time period from WWI through WWII.

Historia
Maisie Dobbs got her start as a maid in an aristocratic London household when she was thirteen. Her employer, suffragette Lady Rowan Compton, soon became her patron, taking the remarkably bright youngster under her wing. Lady Rowan’s friend, Maurice Blanche, often retained as an investigator by the European elite, recognized Maisie’s intuitive gifts. The outbreak of war changed everything. Ten years after the Armistice, in the spring of 1929, Maisie sets out on her own as a private investigator, one who has learned that coincidences are meaningful, and truth elusive.

Historia
In Montana's Gravelly Range, paw prints and a single whisker discovered at a scene of horrific violence suggest a woman has been attacked and carried away by a mountain lion. Sheriff Martha Ettinger employs her fiancé, sometimes-detective Sean Stranahan, to put a name to the gnawed bones comprising all that is left of the body. The woman's is the first of several deaths that Sean suspects are not as easily explained as they appear.

I wanted to like this listen.
Revisado: 01-17-22
I wanted to like it but mixed is the best I can do. Descriptions of the natural world and landscapes were evocative. I remember the "Mountain Lion" warning signs that would sometimes be out when I'd go for walks when I lived in the Bay area below San Francisco. Nice to have Mtn. Lions in the plot instead of bears for a change. By the end, the negatives had piled up to the level of souring the experience of the story. The reader is asked to willingly participate in crazy stretches of the imagination all along the story ...way too many eye rolls. The conclusion held no surprises. The "bad guys" were weirdos from start to finish. What did it for me at the end was there wasn't a single character that I wanted to be around or really cared about. The main character is a confusion of Painter, Fisherman, and part-time PI and his official role never makes much sense. While he's not particularly clever or humorous, his fiancé is the elected Officer in charge and provides the reason for his sideways entry to the action. It seemed the women central to the story were very two dimensional and came across as strange, distant, and without depth. I wondered if the author just wasn't as invested in making rich believable women characters. It threwii me off that Martha, Sean's fiancé and lead elected Officer, was consistently cold and inexplicably prickly whenever she showed up. There were no subtle meanings or hidden clues to find. In the end, beautiful descriptions of landscapes and wildlife could not make up for incongruous actions, flat characters, and stupid leaps of faith. The author didn't give much to enjoy.

Historia
Rice Moore is just beginning to think his troubles are behind him. He’s found a job protecting a remote forest preserve in Virginian Appalachia where his main responsibilities include tracking wildlife and refurbishing cabins. It’s hard work, and totally solitary - perfect to hide away from the Mexican drug cartels he betrayed back in Arizona. But when Rice finds the carcass of a bear killed on the grounds, the quiet solitude he’s so desperately sought is suddenly at risk.

Historia
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered
