Historia
Of the many books on UFOs and aliens, this one may be unique. Richard Dolan, one of the world’s leading historians of the UFO subject, has analyzed the different alien types and agendas based on longstanding patterns observed by witnesses. This is both a careful review of the best evidence we have of human-alien interaction, as well as a bold speculation of just who the aliens are and what they want. Dolan’s analysis starts with our ancient prehistory and potential genetic modifications and monitoring by extraterrestrials.

Narrator spoils the flow
Revisado: 01-08-23
Good content. However, this narrator appears to have done absolutely no research on the pronunciation of place names and people. Hal Puthoff (Put-hoff) comes out as puth- off. I don't even want to tell you what he does with Pascagoula. Do the work, would you?

Flawed performance
Revisado: 11-17-18
The narrator should be required to re-record this in whole or part, and correct his pronunciation of helo from hello to HEE-lo. The author uses 3 words when one word would do, and words with 3 syllables where words with 1 or 2 syllables work just as well, and are more accessible. Hard to sink into listening to this book for those reasons.

Great Narrator. The story is interesting, and sets the stage for novels to follow. You can share this one with the tweens and early teens, because the language/violence/sex is pretty family friendly. I will happily listen to the following books, so long as you keep Clare Corbett.

Historia
A man shoots down a drone that is flying over his private property. A retail store uses predictive data analytics to send pregnancy-related advertising to a teenager who has not told her parents about her condition. A police officer places a GPS device on a suspected criminal's car to follow him and build a case against him. The news is full of such stories, in which new technologies lead to dilemmas that could not have been imagined just a few decades ago.

Among the best of the Great Courses
Revisado: 12-04-16
I own several dozen of the Great Courses, having purchased my first about 10 years ago. I cannot remember the last one that I found as interesting as this one. It is, in one part, a fascinating survey of the past, current, and probable and speculative future of the acquisition, holding and trading of information. It also discusses, in sufficient and understandable terms and detail, what individuals can expect with regards to their own privacy based on this body of information. The Course can be more fully described, but I hope this review will be sufficient to excite the interest of an ambivalent browser.
Professor Rosenzweig speaks clearly and without any distracting idiosyncrasy in his presentation, which you unfortunately find in some of the Great Courses lecturers. I look forward to any other courses of his that I might find.

This is the story of the first contact between humanity and the civilization of another world, with all of the uncertainty, questions, deceptions, curiosity, fears, and ethical problems that it raises. But it is also the story of a huge spaceship in orbit around the Earth; and the diary of a government agent whose mission is to thwart the alien conquest.

Narrator gets in the way
Revisado: 01-12-16
The narrator of this book appears to have never heard many of the words he is called on to read here-he pronounces them in a way I have never before encountered. His Australian accent swerves from South African to stuffy-headed SoCal surfer, and you honestly wouldn't know that it is Australian if you weren't told so early in the book.
There are numerous occasions in which the narrator does a second take-both takes are present, separated by what sounds like a finger-snap. He also clears his throat with some regularity.
I am not yet through the story, and don't know whether I will be able to finish it. Although there is some promise, some of the dialogue is stilted and distracting. Overall, it is difficult to sink into this book because of the reader.

Historia
In the late nineteenth century a mysterious group of English martial arts aficionados provided Sir Richard F. Burton, well-known expert on exotic languages and historical swordsmanship, a collection of long-lost manuscripts to translate. Burton’s work was subsequently misplaced, only to be discovered by a team of amateur archaeologists in the ruins of a mansion in Treiste. From Burton's translations and the original source material, the epic tale of The Mongoliad was recreated.

If Stephenson wasn't listed, would you read it?
Revisado: 05-09-13
I bought this because Stephenson was the first listed author, and I like his other work. The setting of this book is foreign to me-perhaps if I had more knowledge of the Mongol Empire I would have found it a better read.
Stephenson's participation is difficult to detect, and there is some downright painful writing in here. For example (I don't know the exact quote and can't be bothered to backtrack and get the exact quote) there is a section in which a priest is talking to the Pope. The simile used is something like "life had been wrung from him like juice is wrung from a grape." Who wrings a grape?
I speculate that the breaking of this story into several volumes is an effort to obtain more money by encouraging serial purchases. I will not follow this story further, there are too many other good books to listen to.

Historia
In the dark winter of 1917, as World War I was deadlocked, Britain knew that Europe could be saved only if the United States joined the war. But President Wilson remained unshakable in his neutrality. Then, with a single stroke, the tool to propel America into the war came into a quiet British office. One of countless messages intercepted by the crack team of British decoders, the Zimmermann telegram was a top-secret message from Berlin inviting Mexico to join Japan in an invasion of the United States.

Any additional comments?
In format 3, this was very difficult to listen to. I had to increase volume well over that used for playing other books I have downloaded from Audible, and even at that volume words were sometimes unintelligible.
