Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Amazing
Revisado: 06-25-24
Plot was written really intricately and I feel that the author handled the serious topics with care. The plot is wild and becomes very chaotic very quickly but it was so much fun following all the plot twists and misguiding and general chaos. Ending was very satisfying. Narrator also did a spectacular job covering accents and whatnot. Great read all the way around! Highly recommend

Genuinely surprised people like this
Revisado: 06-14-24
On one hand, the plot twist was good and I definitely didn’t see it coming so that was done well. Also, the narrator did a great job. On the other hand, this book has detailed, stretched out ab*se scenes that feel like they were written solely for the purpose of making entertainment out of trauma. Really weird icky vibes having to listen through it. If it had more purpose for the plot/etc then I wouldn’t feel this way but it does not come across in that manner whatsoever. Also, some of the characters (I’m looking at you Meredith) make the most illogical stupid decisions which feel like cheap ways to move the plot along instead of how a person would actually react in those situations. The only reason I made it to the end of this book was because I realized I couldn’t return it. Maybe skip this one if those are problems for you, or at least move forward with caution!

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

This was actually a pretty decent book; very entertaining & easy to get through. Written well, has unsuspected plot twists and a satisfying ending. The epilogue is a little silly lol

Historia
An award-winning journalist obsessed with obsession, Bianca Bosker’s existence was upended when she wandered into the art world—and couldn’t look away. Intrigued by artists who hyperventilate around their favorite colors and art fiends who max out credit cards to show hunks of metal they think can change the world, Bosker grew fixated on understanding why art matters and how she—or any of us—could engage with it more deeply.

Real, well-researched, and entertaining
Revisado: 04-15-24
Was trying to overcome painting/art world burnout post-grad and this was one of a few things that kept me going. Such a refreshing take of the art world that doesn’t hold back with telling the truth and truly explores every facet of it. The range of people and places she chooses to work with is a really accurate assessment of the art scene and it was so, so nice to see that there really are people out there who aren’t so prestigious and exclusionary. Really helped me realize there is a place for me in the art world after all. So glad this got recommended to me, and I highly recommend it to anyone else—art world people or not—if you want a better understanding of how things work (and don’t work lol) or if you’re a bit lost and need someone to help guide you back & become more in the know. Really great insight on how to sell artworks as well, which people do not talk about nearly enough. Bravo!
