This is the first book that I've gotten by Mike Kraus and I am extremely happy about this purchase. Looking forward to other books that Mike Kraus has written. (can't hardly wait to dive into another adventure by this author!) This is probably the first book that I've gotten off of Audible, that I don't have some gripe with the author's writing. (lame characters, totally unrealistic characters, or, situations, are my usual complaints.) Also, deeply appreciate he didn't use AI for the narration and a real human being narrated the book.

Good mystery Kendra character terrible

The reason why I did not give this book a 5 star rating is because I spent a fairly large portion of the book in annoyance and irritation at the unrealistic, irrational actions of the main character, Kendra. At the beginning of the book, her character starts out fine, however, and as the book progresses, she makes decisions that are irrational.

Every time the character, Kendra, said, "I can take care of myself", (when, clearly she could not), I could envision a spoiled 2 year old stomping their feet. She made decisions that no normal person would have made, under similar circumstances. Her reckless actions put not only her life in danger, but others, like her mother and Lynch, would have suffered and had the outcome where to try and save her from her own stupid actions, they could have lost their lives.

It's difficult finishing a book where the main character, in this case, Kendra, is such an obnoxious, self centered arrogant, idiot, that ran head long into making choices that were unrealistic and abnormal. So, I spent the latter part of the book in complete irritation. Not sure if I could stomach another book with this Kendra being the main character.

I sincerely appreciate good Christian mystery writers as I don't have to suffer through foul language and audible porn. This author does a fairly good job as weaving a good mystery.

That said, the character, Jane, that the author has created in the Redemption Creek books, is probably the most obnoxious character I've seen in a book in a long time. It's been pure irritation, reading any of the books with her as the main character. Her rash personality, that not only puts herself in danger, but others as well, in their desire to not see her killed, is an irritation in itself.

I should have quit any books with her in it, as the main obnoxious character, when in the first book, she hands over her life savings of 30 grand, to an ex husband that is a habitual liar and cheat. No woman in their right mind would do such a stupid thing.

In Hidden Sins, Jane's bossy character is painted as a domineering, arrogant, rash, quick to anger, (where she has no right to be angry), control freak. Demanding apologies when, Jane, the bully, doesn't get her way. She describes the men on the team and others as arrogant, hard headed and pigheaded, yet, that is, exactly, the description of Jane's personality. The men on the team have been nothing but gracious and considerate with her acting like a controlling spoiled brat. She acts like she's the paying boss over the team that came in on their own, to find her brother. She's not paying them, nor, is she their boss, yet, she's angry if they don't include her in all their actions, and demands explanations from them. All the while, the author paints, Jane, as someone that others admire!

She's a character, that in real life, many males and females, would avoid at all costs.

I don't know if I can stomach any more books with this Jane as the main character. Not worth the aggravation, even if the mystery portion, itself is decent.

Love the fact that this was a solid suspense mystery. Also, appreciate that there were no unrealistic situations, such as characters making decisions that were just lazy set ups for the author to create a crises situation.

The main character, Cassidy, seems to have lost ALL of her "good instincts' in this last book. She appears to have the instincts of the average 5 year old in this one, right up to the end. I hate it when authors paint a main character as being intelligent, and in this case, having good instincts, that continually, makes decisions that the average person, of average intelligence, would NOT make. Especially, towards the end of this book where she's wondering if she should trust Samual or Paul when Paul had already shown he was a slimy rat. Good grief!

So far, I've enjoyed this series, a great deal. My only problem is when the author pumps up the main character as being one that can, "trust her instinct" and then makes over the top stupid decisions that the average person with just a tiny bit of common sense, would NOT decide to do, in order to set up a crisis situation. I have a BIG problem with that as I've noticed several authors of cozy mysteries will do the same. One of the big problems with this book is that Cassidy is suppose to have such great instincts, yet, just gullibly believes, Paul, about Simon being a traitor. Paul, who has already shown Cassidy that he's a liar and a cheat, and she just gullibly believes Paul! Unbelievable! Painting a character as having good instincts and then having them make dumb decisions, that the average person, of average intelligence, would NOT make, in order to set up a bad situation. I see this author as being creative enough to come up with better than pulling that lame number on the audience.
