For novices, this is an excellent book. It demonstrates a number of commands that aren't frequently seen in basic manuals. I've always struggled with joins, but after reading this book, I don't think I'll have any more problems. It's a bit of a slog, but it's well worth the effort. If you're comfortable with databases in general, I strongly advise you to read it.
