Historia
1333. Edward III is at war with Scotland. Nineteen-year-old Sir Harry de Lyon yearns to prove himself and jumps at the chance when a powerful English baron, William Montagu, invites him on a secret mission with a dozen elite knights. They ride north, to a crumbling Scottish keep, capturing a feral, half-starved boy within and putting the other inhabitants to the sword. But nobody knows why the flower of English knighthood snuck over the border to capture a savage, dirty teenage boy. Montagu gives the boy to Harry as his squire, with only two rules.

I mean wow 😭
Revisado: 10-31-24
The narrator was fabulous, with good accents (to my untrained American ear) and an enthusiastic tone that made you really believe he was Harry, feeling all his feelings.
The story wad powerful, so romantic, at times so sweet and others so heartbreaking I got teary.
(Mild)***SPOILER***
I was very nearly afraid we wouldn’t have a HEA with all the ups and downs and separations, but we did. In case anyone wanted to know before they commit to the emotional rollercoaster of this beautiful story.

A beautiful love story with enough intrigue for those people who want more story to their romance and enough romance for those who just want a story that allows for romance.

Eye rolls galore
Revisado: 04-05-24
Look, I know this isn’t meant to be a literary masterpiece, but my head practically hurt from the frequency of my eye rolls.
Low angst? Yes. Steamy? Absolutely. An HEA? Sure. But the characters were so understanding of everyone, so articulate about every little misunderstanding, that they were wooden (no pun intended). I had trouble enjoying it as a feel-good book because it was just so unrealistic. I’m not saying there needs to be poor communication and explosions to be realistic, but maybe in combination with the narrator, it just felt stupid.

Revisado: 03-22-24
But boy was it for me! At this point in the series you know what to expect from these books, and I know some people might have trouble with the religion/priest thing or the stalker/peeping Tom, so def take care if that’s not your jam, but it was particularly good and spicy and really hit the spot for me.

When Drew meets Ezra, he doesn’t expect much. A one-night stand and a quick good-bye in the morning. That’s how these things usually go. Only there’s nothing usual about Ezra and the connection that forms between them. When Ezra meets Drew, he doesn’t expect much. A distraction and parting as strangers after a night of meaningless fun. That’s how these things usually go. Only there’s nothing meaningless about Drew and the relentless spark between them that just refuses to disappear. When Bas meets Ezra...things get complicated.

My god the narrator read so fast. And although the writing, I’m sure, was cheesy enough to warrant the tone he used, sometimes it got to be a little much.
But sweet story with low drama so a good palate cleanser. Didn’t wow me but really hit the spot, just a feel good story with lovable enough characters. Decently steamy. Was really nice to see a polyam couple with an ace partner. Wish we had more stories with each!

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

I saw a lot of people saying there was too much sex or it was boring cuz it was just sex, but honestly that was the only reason I kept going. The sex scenes were steamy and explicit and I was into it. …and that’s about all the book offered. Shame, cuz Poppy could’ve been really badass (and she was in the first book) but her inner monologue is whiny and her thoughts are repetitive, and we’re only Told rather than Shown that she’s really cool in this book.
But man the narrator. Killed it! Seriously. I stuck around for the sex.
It felt hardly more than a “plot? what plot?” book.

what a waste of a credit
Revisado: 11-18-16
What would have made Sorry Not Sorry better?
A little more humility. She brags so hard that it was painful to listen to, especially during her child-actor years. I was hoping this would be a deeper exploration into her upbringing and that she had somehow overcome HUGE odds and it might make me think that she's more than just a bland actress. Not so much, she's just a normal girl thinking she's really got talent. I wish I hadn't spent a credit on this, or that I'd contributed to her big headed idea that she's somehow still relevant. I'm all for confidence, but there should be more self-awareness.
What could Naya Rivera have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She made mistakes in her youth. I get it, we all make mistakes. But the way she describes them and the way she overcame them is like she's the first one to ever make them and like she's giving us these amazing revelations/answers. These are the same mistakes that teenagers and young adults have been making for a veryyyy long time. She's not more special for them, just because she was a child actress. She's not even particularly brilliant in her revelations. You managed money poorly. You were broke. You were in debt. With some advice from your parents, you got out of debt. You learned a lesson. Whoop whoop. Many of us have been there too, and you don't see us writing books about it.
Any additional comments?
The only redeeming piece of the book was when she was describing her abortion and the difficulty of it. It was the first point in the book where it felt like she was relatable and I really felt like she had been through something tragic.

One night, Peter Lake - orphan, master-mechanic, and master second-story man - attempts to rob a fortress-like mansion on the Upper West Side. Though he thinks the house is empty, the daughter of the house is home. Thus begins the affair between the middle-aged Irish burglar and Beverly Penn, a young girl who is dying. Because of a love that at first he cannot fully understand, Peter, a simple and uneducated man, will be driven "to stop time and bring back the dead".
