Historia
This is what he remembers, as he sits by the ocean at the end of the lane: A dead man on the back seat of the car and warm milk at the farmhouse. An ancient little girl and an old woman who saw the moon being made. A beautiful housekeeper with a monstrous smile. And dark forces woken that were best left undisturbed.

I loved this book. Fast moving and interesting
Revisado: 12-19-13
I enjoyed this book so much I listened to it in one sitting. I usually just listen to audiobooks while I'm driving, but this book I put my earphones in and listened to it while doing my chores. I'm a big fan of Neil Gaiman books and this is one of his best!

Historia
How did it all begin? I suppose it would be the day I rescued a new-born baby from a poisonous snake, heard the news of my mother’s death and encountered my first ghost... Veterinary surgeon Clara Benning is young and intelligent, but practically a recluse. Disfigured by a childhood accident, she lives alone and shies away from human contact wherever possible.

Loved it
Revisado: 09-13-13
This was recommended to me by a fellow audible listener. Its pretty well non-stop action from the word go. Although there are a few details about Australian snakes which aren't quite right, and she does go into a bit of detail about them in a couple of section, the story is good. It keeps going in a fast paced way and I kind of liked the heroine of the piece as well. I will listen to this again at some point.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

A different sort of story
Revisado: 08-25-13
I found this book quite captivating and interesting. It gave a different take to the Genie in a bottle story and I had never really heard of a golem before. It was a bit slow paced in some places, however found it thoroughly enjoyable!

Historia
In her first novel since 2002, Nebula and Hugo award-winning author Connie Willis returns with a stunning, enormously entertaining novel of time travel, war, and the deeds - great and small - of ordinary people who shape history. In the hands of this acclaimed storyteller, the past and future collideand the result is at once intriguing, elusive, and frightening.

Great book
Revisado: 08-25-13
Really enjoyed this book. Beware though - it finishes right in the middle of a cliff hangar and you need to get the second book - All clear - to find out what happens. I thought that was rather rude of the author really. However, saying that, I truly enjoyed both books in this series.

really enjoyed this book
Revisado: 08-25-13
I really enjoyed both this book and the other book by Connie (the first one of this series - blackout!). The only bit I found a bit annoying was that the characters were rather stupid in working things out and I found it got a bit repetitive at times. I found myself thinking "oh for goodness sake get over it". The twist was a little bit obvious I'm afraid! However, the story was nice and it was fast paced enough to keep my attention.

Historia
Under the streets of London there's a world most people could never even dream of: a city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, and pale girls in black velvet. Richard Mayhew is a young businessman who is about to find out more than he bargained for about this other London. A single act of kindness catapults him out of his safe and predictable life and into a world that is at once eerily familiar and yet utterly bizarre.

I have to say I loved Neil Gaimans the Graveyard book, and I equally loved this book. Its a real adventure through an underworld London. The characters are interesting and things are never quite what they seem. Gorgeous story. Loved it. I'll be getting more of Neil Gaimans stories.

Historia
In this Hugo-winner from Connie Willis, when too many jumps back to 1940 leave 21st century Oxford history student Ned Henry exhausted, a relaxing trip to Victorian England seems the perfect solution. But complexities like recalcitrant rowboats, missing cats, and love at first sight make Ned's holiday anything but restful - to say nothing of the way hideous pieces of Victorian art can jeopardize the entire course of history.

A great listen. I was a bit torn because I tend to like light books for escapism, so its unusual for me to pick something like this. A ratings choice. It was really great. A bit sad at times but nicely done.

Historical romance - more romance than anything el
Revisado: 06-07-13
I really enjoyed this at the beginning and I actually bought the book because it was in the sci fi section. I even enjoyed the romance at the beginning. But over the course of the book that just got a bit boring. The story was pretty good, but it got a bit predictable really. I probably won't bother with the next in the series

Revisado: 06-07-13
I really enjoyed this. Its witty and funny and great light bit of escapism. Great banter between the characters and Bill is a bit of a blokey sort of bloke. His thoughts on women really cracked me up a few times. Well worth it!
