Ron McLarty expertly narrates Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot! Very good voices for all the characters. His voice for Barlow is especially frightening!

First published in 1621, and hardly ever out of print since, it is a huge, varied, idiosyncratic, entertaining and learned survey of the experience of melancholy, seen from just about every possible angle that could be imagined. The Anatomy of Melancholy, presented here with all the original quotations in English, is, at last, available on audiobook in its entirety.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

A Classic of 20th Century Literature
Revisado: 04-13-18
What did you love best about 1984?
The narration by Simon Prebble and of course, that archetypal tale of the common man against the cold, impersonal gears of the government machine.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Winston Smith represents that "everyman" character searching for an individual identity amongst the drones of a totalitarian society.
Have you listened to any of Simon Prebble’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Simon Prebble is an excellent narrator for any audio book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
While this audio book has some dark themes, it's still a compelling listen.
Any additional comments?
"1984" is one of my favorite novels. Don't let the word "classic" put you off. I think every reader/listener can identify with the "everyman" Winston Smith and his growing realization that Big Brother is not the loving panacea that was force-fed into his psyche at birth.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Steampunk Eldritch Horror
Revisado: 04-13-18
What did you love best about 14?
The new take on an old story and the excellent narration by Ray Porter.
What other book might you compare 14 to and why?
If you're looking to sink your teeth further into the Cthulhu mythos, I would recommend "The Complete Fiction of H. P. Lovecraft."
What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
From a purely literary viewpoint, Ray Porter has excellent diction and he brings every character to life. He has one of those voices you could listen to for hours.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Once you start listening to "14," you don't want to stop. The story is a "page-turner."
Any additional comments?
This audio book is an instance where the stars aligned: every aspect of the production is a homerun from the first page to the last. Excellent narration, story, and characters. A Science Fiction/Horror classic.
