Historia
In 48 hours, the Earth will be hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure. To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: Global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off. Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it?

Deep thoughtful story based in both science and history. Strong character development. Immersive performance. Makes one ask themselves, "what would I do".

Historia
The electricity has flickered out. The automobile age is over. In Union Grove, a little town in upstate New York, the future is nothing like people thought it would be. Life is hard and close to the bone. Transportation is slow and dangerous, so food is grown locally at great expense of time and energy, and the outside world is largely unknown. There may be a president, and he may be in Minneapolis now, but people aren’t sure.

A Great Read, Especially These Scary Times...
Revisado: 12-02-22
The author immerses you in a familiar place, but different reality. I either lived in, or frequented many of the upstate NY towns he discusses. So the story was brought "home" for me. But regardless of where you are from, you will connect to his very well developed characters. He didn't rely on zombies, aliens, or other hyped up and often unbelievable events. In this book you are simply inserted into a small town, a community of people trying to survive very difficult times. Void of all the modern technology we take for granted in our here-and-now. A gripping and fascinating tour through the daily lives of regular folk who are perhaps twenty years into surviving on their own. No centralized law, government, transportation, or manufacturing. What would YOU do? How would YOU get along if you were a car salesman by trade, but now there was no more cars, fuel, rubber, or even drivable roads? If society as we all know it, no longer existed. How would you eat, what would you drink, how would you get around? This book takes you there. Hey, we are in seriously unstable times right now. In 25 years we really could be (if we are lucky enough to still be alive) one of his characters! Read this book. Learn from this book. Let this book help prepare you for a future none of us want. And/or read it just to see how incredibly creative mankind really is. Yes, we are facing potentially hard times in our real future. But this book gives us hope, and some hints on how to survive and even thrive should the unthinkable ever happen. Kudos to the author. I got much out of his reimagined American society.

Since the 1970s, FantasticLand has been the theme park where "Fun is Guaranteed!" But when a hurricane ravages the Florida coast and isolates the park, the employees find it anything but fun. Five weeks later, the authorities who rescue the survivors encounter a scene of horror. Photos soon emerge online of heads on spikes outside of rides and viscera and human bones littering the gift shops, breaking records for hits, views, likes, clicks, and shares.

A modern "Lord of the Flies" on steroids
Revisado: 02-18-22
The performance and narration was absolutely on-point. The unique approach Mike Bockoven used in telling the story pulls you into the narrative. Every few minutes the listener finds themselves thinking "REALLY!? OMG! What's going to happen NEXT!" It is a very good listen that makes you wonder, could this really happen? I am glad I gave this one a shot. But hey Mike, what's with the Ferris Wheel on the cover? Shouldn't the cover image be a huge exclamation point? You listeners will get (and agree with) the question once you listen to it.

Historia
I played all those cool video games. I watched all those movies. I even read the books. In most of 'em, the hero shoots the bad guys, drives a sweet car, never gets hungry, and always seems to get laid by the end. Yeah. Whatever. I gotta be straight with you about why I wrote this journal, and it comes down to one thing, the apocalypse kinda sucks. It doesn’t meet my expectations at all.

Gripping, Pulls You In and Holds You.....
Revisado: 11-09-21
Many of us blue-collar working folks will connect with Dusty. His frustrated societal perspectives will resonate with working-class readers. Well written in a "journal" kind of way. Departs from the typical "zombie" stuff, which is nice. These infected "monsters" are still "alive". They eat, sleep, mate, have strategy, and even basic emotions. It is an entertaining listen. Ray Porter, of course, is absolutely amazing (duh, everyone knows that). The post story interview about the book really ties up some lose ends. Only real mentionable criticism is the ending. After hours of lead-up, the story simply falls off a cliff with a terribly lackluster ending. So enjoy the hell out of it until the last twenty minutes, then forgive the shockingly uninspired ending. In my mind I did this by making up my own ending based on the very well developed characters. Maybe a part-2 is out there? I haven't looked yet. If there is, I'll grab it.

Historia
This is the story of Michael Talbot, his family, and his friends: a band of ordinary people trying to get by in extraordinary times. When disaster strikes, Mike, a self-proclaimed survivalist, does his best to ensure the safety and security of those he cares for. Book One of the Zombie Fallout Trilogy follows our lead character at his self-deprecating, sarcastic best. What he encounters along the way leads him down a long dark road, always skirting the edge of insanity.

Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Twists and Surprises!
Revisado: 06-24-21
Good story, well written. Decent character development. Realistic emotions and fears. Of course, as usual RC Bray was epic. I'm getting tired of complimenting Bray! He's always amazing. I like that the book is not some all-encompassing huge planetary epic tome. It's just a microcosm. Three guys trapped together during a global apocalypse, for a few days. Easy to wrap your mind around. Good job. Worth the listen.
