Historia
In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box. But when the Eastwood sisters - James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna - join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement.

I always love the Pendergast novels. This one is one of my favorites. I did an actual gasp at the ending and am anxiously awaiting the next novel. The narrator is superb.

The romp continues
Revisado: 02-27-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Beneath This Man to be better than the print version?
I don't own the print copy, but the narrator is AMAZING!
What did you like best about this story?
The story is a good continuation of book one. Jesse and Ava's crazy relationship continues to develop and we get to learn a bit more of why Jesse is JESSE.
What does Edita Brychta bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her voice is so expressive, so silky, so purrrrfect! One of my two favorite narrators.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Crazy Mad!
Any additional comments?
Again, this book kept me entertained on my daily drive. I couldn't wait to get in the car and I couldn't wait to purchase the next book in the series.

Historia
Young interior designer Ava O'Shea has no idea what awaits her at the Manor. A run-of-the-mill consultation with a stodgy country gent seems likely, but what Ava finds instead is Jesse Ward - a devastatingly handsome, utterly confident, pleasure-seeking playboy who knows no boundaries. Ava doesn't want to be attracted to this man, and yet she can't control the overwhelming desire that he stirs in her. She knows that her heart will never survive him and her instinct is telling her to run, but Jesse is not willing to let her go. He wants her and is determined to have her.

An enjoyable romp!
Revisado: 02-27-14
What made the experience of listening to This Man the most enjoyable?
The narrator, Edita Brychta was amazing!
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The chemistry between Ava and Jesse was almost palpable. Jesse's overbearing and controlling nature did push the limits at times.
What about Edita Brychta’s performance did you like?
The subtle changes of voice for changes in character made for a very enjoyable listen. Her voice is beautiful and her narration style are amazing. I found my self listening to another book and wishing she were the narrator. On par with the amazing Davina Porter.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
This made my daily drive much more enjoyable. It was a fun listen and made me want to purchase the entire series.

Entertaining, but predictable
Revisado: 09-24-09
Entertaining and credit-worthy, but predictable. That about sums it up. I thought the narration was great, but I was rarely surprised as the story unfolded. I do like all the history, art and architecture references in the book and the occasional insights into the Masons.

Good story, not-so-good narration
Revisado: 06-10-09
I found this to be a fairly-typical Dorothy Garlock "Americana" novel. I can always count on being entertained for several hours, but know I am not going to come away with any life-changing revelations. My only complaint with Ms. Garlock was the over-use of the "GD" curse phrase. The book was entertaining, if somewhat predictable. However, the narration often made me cringe. Between Fawn's lisp and stilted voice and Chester's nasal voice reminiscent of Mr. Haney on the Green Acres TV show, I often felt myself cringing. I found the voices to be like "nails on a chalk board." The book would have been a better listen without the overly-dramatic narration.

An excellent listen!
Revisado: 04-20-09
I purchased this book because of the good reviews and I found that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was an excellent listen. Although one character oddly sounds like they have a Cockney accent and another sounds a bit like Count Dracula, the narration is good and quite clear. This is a translation of a Swedish novel, so I recommend that you take the time to learn the characters names well to avoid confusion. I had to do a little backtracking to keep them straight at first. Characters are well-developed and interesting. I especially enjoyed the unconventional heroine, Lizbeth and hope to hear from her again in later novels.
