Historia
In the early 20th century, the United States government concocted a plan to import hippopotamuses into the marshlands of Louisiana to be bred and slaughtered as an alternative meat source. This is true. Other true things about hippos: They are savage, they are fast, and their jaws can snap a man in two. This was a terrible plan. Contained within this volume is an 1890s America that might have been: a bayou overrun by feral hippos and mercenary hippo wranglers from around the globe.

Great story with excellent narration.

Stumbled upon this book while going through last Nebula and Hugo nominees and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. A quick read with some really good narration/voice acting. Highly recommend!

Historia
In the 21st century, humanity is reaching new heights of scientific understanding - and at the same time appears to be losing its mind. How can a species that developed vaccines for COVID-19 in less than a year produce so much fake news, medical quackery, and conspiracy theorizing? Pinker rejects the cynical cliché that humans are an irrational species - cavemen out of time saddled with biases, fallacies, and illusions.

Enjoyable but tedious at times.

A great book overall, but not one you can listen to while attempting to do other tasks. Recommend getting a physical or kindle version instead of listening to the audiobook.

A Somewhat Complete History of Sitting Down

Historia
Yes, it's a strange kind of history. And that’s the way Public Historian Greg Jenner likes it. Because, he says, how we sit, where we sit, what we do when we sit and what happens as a result of all that sitting says a lot about humans past and present. This study means we can link a royal throne with a 2000-year-old toilet. It shows how the language and culture of sitting is deep seated in all of us. It sits listeners down in classrooms, parliaments, sports grounds, protests and in the penitentiary death chamber.

Jenner Doing What He Does Best
Revisado: 11-18-21
Fans of Greg Jenner’s ‘You’re Dead to Me’ podcast already know all to well his ability to take subjects that seem uninteresting at face value, and turn them into engaging and memorable lessons in history. This Audible Original is not different.
The production value throughout all eight episodes is nothing short of stellar, incorporating wonderful music, interviews, sound effects, and most importantly, the cheerful witticisms that is Jenner’s narration and performance.
No matter where you sit or how you do it, this will forever change the way you view the art of sitting.

Historia
When Bernie Sanders began his race for the presidency, it was considered by the political establishment and the media to be a "fringe" campaign, something not to be taken seriously. After all, he was just an independent senator from a small state with little name recognition. His campaign had no money, no political organization, and it was taking on the entire Democratic Party establishment. By the time Sanders' campaign came to a close, however, it was clear that the pundits had gotten it wrong.

A great book that suffers from poor production.
Revisado: 02-26-21
On substance alone, this book is dense and incredibly informative. Most campaign books tend to narrow their focus down to a few key issues, yet this book covers Senator Sanders’ stance on just about everything imaginable.
However this book suffers immensely from poor production value and the choice to have Mark Ruffalo take over narration for the middle portion of the audiobook. He constantly mispronounces words, and struggles with his delivery, voice, intonation, and keeping his lips near the microphone. The performance was so bad that I had to just buy the paperback edition in order to get through it. I recommend that others do the same.
