Preacher has agreed to escort Barnaby Cooper through Dakota Territory’s hills to establish a trading post. Accompanied by his friends Lorenzo and Tall Dog, the mountain man hopes they’ll be able to protect Cooper from Sioux warriors who don’t want any white man trespassing on their sacred grounds. But the Sioux aren’t the only hostiles staking their claim in the region.

One of my favorite series. It’s always good to listen about preacher’s adventures and this book does not disappoint.

Historia
He came west to the Rockies as a young runaway and grew into a legend among the already legendary frontier mountain men. They called him Preacher - a name that would become a monument to all who sought adventure in the savage wilderness of America's untamed west. The only man with the skills to lead a wagon train on the last leg of the rugged Oregon trail, Preacher knows they're headed into trouble. It's hard enough for a hundred greenhorns to survive the wilds of the northwest; being pursued by thieving renegade outlaws and Indians with a thirst for gold makes it damn near impossible.

One of the best series I've ever read
Revisado: 09-13-22
William W. Johnstone is a great writer. He has researched his history and gives an accurate description of the times, hardships, and courage of the men known as "Mountain Men". His lead character is a mountain man named Preacher. I'm now on book 6 of the series and have enjoyed every one.
Just as important as the writing is the narration. J. Rodney Turner is THE BEST with it comes to these wild west novels. I can't imagine listening to anybody else playing the part as PREACHER. After 5 books, Mr. Turner has the voices, accents, and a great ability to bring you into the story.
If you enjoy stories of the OLD west, I can't think of a better combination than William Johnstone and Rodney Turner. The First Mountain Man Series is becoming one of the best series I've ever read.

Another HIT!

Would you consider the audio edition of Sharpe's Honor to be better than the print version?
Bernard Cornwell does it again with his book, Sharpe's Honor. One of the best narrators, if not the best, Frederick Davidson, does a masterful job in bringing the characters alive and make the listening experience truly memorable.
