Historia
Dragons Riders: The last noble warriors in the realm. Only heroes can embolden the ordinary. For centuries, millennia, the Dragon Riders galvanized generation after generation, adding Riders to their ranks and birthing dragons from their eggs. But there are no more heroes. War with the Andarens is like nothing the Riders, nor the armies of Erador, have ever faced. In the place of heroes, there are only soldiers now. Fodder for the machine of war. This time of twilight is set to be the crowning hour of the dark when the light is losing its grip.

Compelling
Revisado: 03-19-24
I discovered Phillip C. Quaintrell’s bio through GoodReads after finishing both of the Ranger Series and “Once There Were Heroes.” This brilliant author began as a self-published entrepreneur. Given the scarcity of truly great Fantasy authors, Quaintrell’s skill with the pen and his background make this book doubly compelling. From beginning to end the only disappointments are the friends the reader loses along the journey. I literally just wrote that the novel’s characters were my “friends.” Stop reading and buy the book. Joe Abercrombie fans will not be disappointed.

Historia
The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.

A fantastic finish to the Ryria Chronicles prequel. Esrahaddon lacks pretentious dialogue or complication. The characters are compelling and brilliantly flawed. Mr. Sullivan delivers and keeps getting better. Thank you.

Fantastic
Revisado: 07-17-23
Was really disappointed that no Powder Mage installment came out and reluctantly tried this one. Did not like the intro with all of the various glass definitions so I stopped listening awhile back. Forced my way through the beginning only after listening to the Prequel (get it too!). Totally blown away by this novel.

For 600 years, the kingdom of Wahrheit was ruled by an unbroken line. It rose on a wave of technology and magic and stood alone—a bastion of stability built on pillars of economic and military might. Historia
Once, Tomas Piety looked after his men, body and soul, as best he could. Then those who ran his country decided his dark talents would better serve in the corridors of power. Crushed by the power of the Queen's Men and with the Skanian menace rising once more on the streets of Ellinburg, Tomas Piety is forced to turn to old friends, old debts and untrustworthy alliances. Meanwhile in the capital city of Dannsburg, Dieter Vogel is beginning to wonder if the horror he has unleashed in the Martyr's Disciples might be getting out of control.

Why Change Narrators?
Revisado: 10-09-22
Peter McLean is a masterful storyteller. Paired with John Lee his words were sublimely performed. I am sure David Hale is great in his own right, but his voice is not right for this series. Look forward to an updated installment with John Lee’s voice. Nonsense to do this after the first two books. Priest of Lies is one of my favorite books.

Some say that to change the world you must first burn it down. Now that belief will be tested in the crucible of revolution: The Breakers and Burners have seized the levers of power, the smoke of riots has replaced the smog of industry, and all must submit to the wisdom of crowds. With nothing left to lose, Citizen Brock is determined to become a new hero for the new age, while Citizeness Savine must turn her talents from profit to survival before she can claw her way to redemption.

Could Not Have Been A Better Novel
Revisado: 11-15-21
Perfect in every regard.
I was not going to pen a review, until I came across an oddly negative one. Joe Abercrombie demonstrates mastery of his art with this installment from the First Law World. No spoilers….but there are subtle hints that Logen may still be alive. The origin of a mysterious young man that Bayaz is fostering is also a compelling element that the story is far from completed. Expect more brilliant epic fantasy from one of the greatest fiction authors to have ever put pen to paper.
Narration was unbelievably well done. Face paced with more plot twists than one could hope for. Abercrombie delivers and delights one the same level as he did in The Blade Itself.

The Perfect Blend Of Fantasy And History
Revisado: 03-01-21
Dan Davis has become one of the finest writer’s of historical fantasy known to me. Godborn takes the reader on a believable and expertly created journey to the early Bronze Age and the narration by Alex Wyndham leaves the reader fully immersed in the story. I am already checking blogs and websites to discover release dates for a sequel. Great use of even your last credit of the month!
