Well written and well researched
Revisado: 02-03-25
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing was great and you can tell these guys did their homework. The only reason I can’t give the performance five stars is because the narrator kept mispronouncing various players names. He even failed to pronounce UEFA the way football fans would recognize. It’s also a shame that they didn’t wait until after the 2022 World Cup to write this as it would have shown that Messi still had one chapter left to his story and it could’ve shown the increasing influence that Middle Eastern states are having on football with the story of Ronaldo going to Saudi Arabia. I hope that they will produce a second edition.

Good sequel
Revisado: 11-26-24
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed the first book. But still, another good read of creative apologetic fiction. I could see this book and the previous one being episodes of Black Mirror.

Historia
Our current definition of “productivity” is broken. It pushes us to treat busyness as a proxy for useful effort, leading to impossibly lengthy task lists and ceaseless meetings. We’re overwhelmed by all we have to do and on the edge of burnout, left to decide between giving into soul-sapping hustle culture or rejecting ambition altogether. But are these really our only choices?

As usual, Cal Newport finds the sweet spot where philosophical observations and practical applications intersect.

Historia
There have been many books - on a large and small scale - about Steve Jobs, one of the most famous CEOs in history. But this book is different from all the others. Becoming Steve Jobs takes on and breaks down the existing myth and stereotypes about Steve Jobs. The conventional, one-dimensional view of Jobs is that he was half genius, half jerk from youth, an irascible and selfish leader who slighted friends and family alike.

Richer view of Jobs
Revisado: 09-05-20
I thoroughly enjoyed this biography of jobs more than some of the others because it gave us a more thorough picture of the spiritual side of his life.

Historia
From the hero whistleblower of the infamous Theranos scam, Thicker than Water is a look at never-before-revealed details behind closed doors at the company, revealing a cautionary tale of corporate bullying, gaslighting, ego, and wealth running amok in Silicon Valley. Tyler Shultz had been in the workforce for less than a year when he emailed Elizabeth Holmes, his employer and the CEO and founder of Theranos, with concerns that the company’s lab practices were faulty, ignored quality control, and were potentially dangerous to patients.

A Cautionary Tale
Revisado: 08-21-20
What a great listen. Tyler's courage and integrity are commendable. This is a wonderful and cautionary tale of what happens when vision doesn't produces anything, and how the love of money and the inibreating effect of fame will lead one to push against that reality regardless of who gets hurt.

Historia
The Color of Compromise takes listeners on a historical journey: from America's early colonial days through slavery and the Civil War, covering the tragedy of Jim Crow laws and the victories of the Civil Rights era, to today's Black Lives Matter movement. Author Jemar Tisby reveals the obvious - and the far more subtle - ways the American church has compromised what the Bible teaches about human dignity and equality.

Politically Compromised
Revisado: 07-17-20
While I greatly appreciated the historical survey of this book and was genuinely enlightened and convicted by it, the book was very one-sided in its examination of current political scene, and was weakest when it came to practical suggestions for eliminating racialization in the church in America.
