Frustratingly realistic
Revisado: 07-08-24
For the most part, I didn't mind the few breaks I had to take. Each chapter became heavier as I joined in on the MC's frustration. Had it been a book, I'd have thrown it more than once. I felt that this was based on a true story but the ending is highly unlikely. You'd have to judge for yourself.
Unfortunately, this strengthens my belief that the world in general doesn't care for little black girls. I was one of the overlooked, ignored, and forgotten as well.

As Titus investigates the shootings, he unearths terrible crimes.

Heroic
Revisado: 06-12-24
What a strong, almost invincible character! Within these pages, the heard questions are asked. The questions of children are unshelved and explored without tongue-biting or mercy. You are left to sorry out the messy emotions on your own...
It's long but not tedious. He painted pictures without being verbose. I don't know if a word was wasted anywhere!

Historia
When Brian Holloway (Jack Quaid, The Boys) was hired by famous horror author Paul Robinette (Titus Welliver, Bosch) to crack an antique safe in his home, he had no idea what he was about to encounter. Opening that safe door unleashed something sinister — something that continues to haunt him. But what exactly? And can whatever slipped through that threshold be stopped?

This was an amazing performance! I don't normally do ghost stories or thrillers so ... I was enthralled from beginning to end. I hated the ending .. but perhaps since I'm unfamiliar with the genre, I didn't know what I should expect.

Historia
Felicia Lyons, a stressed-out stay-at-home mom, struggles to sprint ahead of the demands of motherhood while her husband spends long days at the office. Felicia taps, utters mantras, and breathes her way through most situations, but on some days, like when the children won't stop screaming her name or arguing over toy trucks and pretzel sticks, she wonders what it would be like to get in her car and drive away.

Pleasantly.... infuriating
Revisado: 06-01-24
It is off to a slow start but similar to a roller coaster, after the first turn you may be turned every which way but loose. I appreciate the way it addresses the situation some men put you in by developing a picture of who they think you are, then painting a picture of what they envisioned and selling you the dream.
My husband and I fell into a similar situation. Relationships aren't fairytales and take more work than many people are willing to exert. You can't tell from one minute to the next how this will go.
I do wish she'd have sorted out the foolishness that went on at the church and expound on it more. The fact that she found her answers through Tarot and Yoga was disheartening. I'm assuming this wasn't loosely based on actual events but the excess in MANY areas would have been comical if it weren't tragic.
This is my second book of Ms Johnson in which I've read of corruption, or the like, running rampant through a church unchecked. It is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Too realistic
Revisado: 05-19-24
This was very well put together, unless you have a problem with voices or introduce thoughts. I that a story with the sound effects that they employ here could be unsettling. I was more surprised at what didn't happen that I was at what did.
The frustrating beauty of it all is how it seems so simple. You might imagine that you'll soon bore of it all. Then like leaves on a breeze that develop into a whirlwind, little hints become clues that lead to more and more until you're exhausted, weeping bitterly in the parking lot a half hour late for work.
you've been warned

Read Second...
Revisado: 05-18-24
I was so excited about starting this series that I downloaded the first two books at the same time and read this second. The second in series dropped me into these people's life like a crawfish in boiling water. The FMC and I connected and her struggle continued. The highs, lows, and misunderstandings create a whirlwind of emotions. Afterwards, the 1st came and filled in the blanks and answered my backstory questions. It is splintered with generational wisdom and quirky quotes.
The narration is mostly compelling and sincere, it's he language that I didn't really appreciate.

Feel good
Revisado: 04-08-24
This was what I'd call a chummy tale... at if you were sitting around a bonfire or relaxing on a front porch swing and eavesdropping on someone's conversation. It isn't tedious or boring... just easy to listen to. I found it to be a great way to spend a lazy
afternoon.
The performance... it took a bit for me to get adjusted to the way she portrayed a couple of characters.

Fantastic
Revisado: 12-20-23
This was a feel-good-inspite-of-it-all type story. Just when you think you've heard it all, nothing really happens as I expected. I don't want to spoil it but you are set up from the very beginning. You'll be sure you know how it all goes. There's drama at unexpected turns. No one quite behaves as you expect. It doesn't end as it ought to, it ends as it should. Now. It's up to you to decipher that.

unrealistic
Revisado: 06-23-23
I couldn't enjoy it bc it was not something I could interest myself in. It's full of dreamers and all their dreams seem to come true. It's fodder for a young woman's unrealistic expectations and fuel for that 7 year itch during which she begins to cry, where's my Boaz?
