Historia
Though it’s often too subtle to see, much of modern Christianity has fallen prey to the ancient Gnostic heresy which taught that the material world has no lasting spiritual value. Rediscovering the Goodness of Creation diagnoses the problem, takes us through its history, and helps us discover “the purposefulness of the material world, the goodness of the human body, and the eschatological hope of a transformed universe.”

Read the comments. If you relate to these ideas about the world being sinful and not being worth investing in because it is passing away, then I imagine this will be a very helpful book. I just was never taught that, so this book doesn’t scratch the itch I have. But for the right person, it is probably very helpful

Most painless weight loss of my life
Revisado: 12-19-21
I can say that I never really understood the approach or grasped the full benefits until I listened to this. And, I’ve been trying this approach for 7 years, and even lost 50lbs eating in this style. But, I never grasped the full picture until I jumped in and completely did one of his 10 in 20 plans while listening to this audio book to get the explanation of what we are doing and why. His other offerings seem to go into the science behind why you should do it. Or he tries to gradual wean you from meat, which doesn’t allow you to appreciate the full benefits of the program. With this, you are encouraged to fully adopt one of his 10 in 20 programs, which are crafted for you to lose about 1/2 lb per day. Before this, I would tweak his recipes based on ingredients on hand or convenience (not blending a soup for instance). But, when you try the recipes without any alterations they are more delicious than I’ve ever experienced in all the years of following him. Also, they are more effective for weight loss and energy. For instance, he might specify frozen broccoli, but if I don’t have, I’ll use frozen cauliflower. But I learned in this that frozen broccoli retains nutrients better than other frozen veggies. The delicious, attractive food he makes causes you to feel so vibrant and satisfied that it is hard to believe you are losing weight. But I’ve been losing almost 0.8 lbs per day for the past week. It is such a relief to not be hungry all the time, always craving some food or another, always low energy. I just don’t want to go back to the “normal” way of eating because I’ve finally experienced the full nutritatrian approach which is really delightful. So, on his Fuhrman website, you can get the 10 in 20 plans which contain the recipes. The weight loss plan has fewer fattening nuts. The diabetes plan has less dried fruits. The high blood pressure plan has no added salt. I’m doing the weight loss plan during 1 week of vacation when I had the time to devote myself to it and it has been life changing. Now that I understand how it works, I can tweaks more easily once vacation is over, but continue this lifestyle.

Historia
Richard Rohr leads us through the social, political and environmental setting out of which Matthew brought Christ’s radical message of a new world order. He explains Matthew’s challenge to let go of the conventional wisdom that comes with contemporary American culture. Each of seven talks brings us closer to the heart of the Sermon.

The best
Revisado: 08-06-18
I have many of his books and devotionals. But I think this is the clearest exposition of what he is saying. I just love listening to him but sometimes I don't quite know what it means or how to apply it. This book seems to be something to take away with you and could more easily apply. I also have the written version of this book "God's plan for a new world order" which is a different twist on the same message and helps deepen this message. It's not as frightening add the title might seem to suggest. Wonderful stuff! I can feel the gentle way this is changing my life. I'll also say that sometimes I find him to be a bit too judgemental, because he is usually frequently comparing and contrasting. I sometimes feel like, there is some way in which he is doing this that just feels too angry, even though I usually agree with what he is saying. That part usually doesn't have such a good effect on me because it makes me nervous around other church goers. Are they going to be those people he was criticizing? But this book didn't seem to have so much judgemental comparison. On the same token in his books he'll talk about sign posts that you are headed in the right direction. That is present in this book as well. That seems to have the effect of heightening the good in me, but hopefully not at the expense of encouraging pride. Overall, I feel that I am more joyful, peaceful and tolerant as an effect of reading his body of work and I would say this seems to stand out as some of the best. In fact this book is giving me the courage to face a situation in my life and do the right thing which I was to scared to do. Yes God often puts what we need in our hands when we need it.

Historia
A 2009 Nautilus Gold Award Winner, Pure Water is Coleman Barks’ inspired live performance of the poetry of Jellaludin Rumi (1207-1273) - with Sufi stories and jokes, accompanied with music by Bach, O’Carolan, Friesen and others. The performance captured in this recording recalls the essence of the communal celebrations of poetry, stories, jokes, prayer, and music in which Rumi’s work was first uttered, but presents it in a distinctive contemporary setting. Coleman’s words combine with the cello of Grammy Award-winner Eugene Friesen.

I listen to it repeatedly and keeps getting better
Revisado: 02-02-18
Would you listen to Pure Water again? Why?
Yes. It was wonderful listening to it the first time. But, I really love it as background when I’m doing boring tasks that require some level of concentration such that I can’t listen to a narrative. Since I’ve heard this recording before, if a miss a few lines, it’s no big deal. Instead, it just helps me hear the following lines in a new fresh way. But, having this as a background adds a touch of beauty to my everyday actions. It helps me see the poetry in my day.
What did you like best about this story?
On the second hearing, I really appreciated the cello much more. First time through, I was trying to follow the words. Sometimes, now, I like to listen to it just for the cello. It really is the perfect marriage. The cello perfectly deepens the emotion of the words, sometimes almost to tears.
Which character – as performed by Coleman Barks and Eugene Friesen (cello) – was your favorite?
Barks’s Southern delivery really fits the soulfulness of the poetry quite well. I have to say, I don’t love hearing Barks’s own poetry that much. I mostly just want to hear Rumi. But, it did help me realize that when we are reading the poetry of Rumi, we are actually hearing the poetry of Barks. I suppose he must feel he does not gets much credit as a poet. I previously thought Barks was some sort of Persian scholar. Now I realize he is actually, primarily, a poet.
Any additional comments?
A lovely work that gets better wirh repetition

The Imitation of Christ by Thomas à Kempis is a Christian devotional book. It was first composed in Latin ca.1418-1427. It is a handbook for spiritual life arising from the Devotio Moderna movement, where Kempis was a member. The Imitation is perhaps the most widely read devotional work next to the Bible, and is regarded as a devotional and religious classic.

Has whispersync
Revisado: 06-01-17
As many versions of this book as there are, it is perhaps surprising that there is no edition that meets my needs. Then again, I love this book so much that I demand a lot from it. So, I would like to listen to this as continuously as possible. It just keeps your head pointed in the right direction. If only one of these editions came with chapter titles and also had whispersync because that would assist with navigating the audio. But alas, that doesn't appear to exist. You can either have chapter titles or whispersync, but not both. Now this particular edition has whispersync but no chapter titles in the kindle edition. The narrator is very good, but the audio quality has a lot of echo to it so it is hard to listen to. There is one other with whispersync, but I like this one bettter.

Historia
Thomas À Kempis' collection of meditative writings from the Brethren of the Common Life is the most widely read book in the world after the Bible. The reflective devotions have been a heartening friend to great men such as Thomas More, St. Ignatius Loyola, Thomas Merton, Pope John Paul I, and John Wesley. Learning to live like Jesus is the central task that À Kempis explores in this classic devotional. This book provides comfort and counsel to every person who seeks to live a more connected and whole life.

Whispersync with kindle version
Revisado: 04-20-17
There are MANY versions of this book on Amazon and hear on Audible. This is the only version I could find that allowed the whispersync connection with amazon. So it is the Dover thrift edition on Amazon and the audio narrated by pj Ocklan. I that think it is incredibly helpful to be able to go between the audio book and the kindle book. This is not a book you will only read once. It is more of a devotional that you can fruitfully read over and over again. So have the ability to switch between audio and print is priceless.
