Historia
When Bridget arrives penniless in Dodge City, already disillusioned by feckless men and the uncompromising landscape, she has only her wits to keep her alive. Thanks to the allure of her bright red hair and country-girl beauty, she’s recruited to work at the Buffalo Queen, the only brothel in town run by women. Bridget takes to brothel life, appreciating the good food, good pay, and good friendships she forms with her fellow “sporting women.” But with the arrival of some infamous outlaws at the start of winter, tensions in Dodge City run high.

A good listen

I enjoyed the story and narration a lot. Favorite characters were Constance and Spartan. How do we get media to stop with this specific type of cliché ending though? Would have liked it a lot more.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Enjoyable

It hit the spot. Cute, not too romantic. Serious topic but didn’t beat you over the head with it. Interesting and nice little mystery revealed at the tidy ending.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

I was bored and annoyed
Revisado: 04-30-23
The high rating persuaded me to purchase. Maybe if I had read the book rather than listen I would have enjoyed it more. The voices used for narration came across like caricatures. Story-line moved along very slowly. I skipped through the last few chapters.

Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

Loved it

I enjoyed this story. Equal parts heartwarming, interesting, and amusing dry British humor (I think). Love how she wove factual information and her one big question throughout. Good narrator for this audiobook.

Good story. PG-13?

Any additional comments?
As I listen to this I become increasingly aware, this story isn't really intended for kids. A chapter all about gay animals, not a huge deal but was kind of unexpected. A lot of the story is about the wife's cancer and treatment, as well.

Historia
Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland.

Supremely satisfying
Revisado: 09-28-15
What did you like best about this story?
Great from start to finish. A sweet, easy, and absorbing tale with a masterful plot and interesting character that will keep you intrigued all the way through.
Any additional comments?
Not child friendly. It's a grown-up story with use of "sh*t" a few times, a slightly dark theme, and a sprinkle of what is, in my opinion, tasteful yet quite adult action.
p.s. I see there's a short story, "Little Donkey," sequel. Going for $0 on audible but don't listen first because from what I've heard so far it contains spoilers for "Nothing Girl."

What did you love best about This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage?
It was a free download when I got it and I was pleasantly surpised by how much I enjoyed listening to the story unfold.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, but I looked forward to hearing more of the story each day during my walk and I thought about it between listenings.
Any additional comments?
Was confused for awhile because I thought it was written by Anne Pratchett (sp?) who wrote a memoir about her first child, so when this author said something about not having kids it set up a weird little mystery in my head. I actually had to go look it up.
