Caste: The Origin of Our Discontent - Magnificent

This is a book I would recommend that every high school student in the country listen to and discuss in history class. It breaks down Caste, class and racism and how they cripple society. It also explains how the three have historically harmed both the recipients and the perpetrators for centuries.
Robin Miles' performance is second to none. Her reading, including the accents whet my appetite to hear more. The mere words "thank you" seems inadequate for the gift of this book. Bethany J Campbell

Terrence Moore's The Real Hank Aaron, a Hammer

I loved The Real Hank Aaron by Terrence Moore. It was well written without becoming a litany of boring statistics. His two decades plus relationship with Hammer gave me insight into Hank Aaron's thoughts, skill, community concerns and business acumen. I was around Mr. Aaron and his wife on several occasions, and always wondered what the rest of the story was. Moore's beyond the field telling of Hank Aaron's challenges as an Atlanta Braves executive confirmed much of what I thought was true. Now I know. It was Hank who developed players on the farms-- players that brought pennants and world championships to the Braves franchise. My rating for Overall rating for Story is a five. The performance would have received a five as well were it not for a few mispronounced words and misplaced pauses. I may have been super sensitive on those points because I am an African American Southern woman.
I was born in the late fifties and baseball was a passion of my dad's. My interest grew as I got older. A love of history that included Negro League baseball and all of what we as Black people built for ourselves gets the nod for how I see, read and hear our stories told. Thank you Terrence Moore. You hit this one out of the park. --Bethany J. Campbell

Never Caught is Captivating

As a lover of history and professional tour guide, I found Never Caught to be a truly enjoyable read. I've gone to Mt. Vernon on several occasions so familiarity with the backdrop drop drew me in. The first got my attention and held me through the last word. Ona Judge's story as the escaped property/enslaved woman of George and Martha Washington is powerful. Her well laid plan to determine what her life would be was admirable. And although her life was very difficult and she never overthrew the yoke of poverty, Judge's life was lived on her own terms. The pain of the death of her husband, having to indenture her teen aged daughters and brutal conditions of living in poverty didn't break her. Ona Judge's story is that of an indomitable spirit.
Robin Miles' reading of Never Caught held me riveted. The rise and fall of the timbre in her tone kept me on edge waiting for the next line. The length of the story held my interest without feeling labored to reach the end. I've had books that were never completed because of the narrator's voice, accent or cadence. Not so with Miles. This book is a joy.

Great parallel of Buddhism and Christianity. This read or listen would serve the latter very well. Intolerance can be eliminated.

A fascinating telling of slavery era history

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to "They Were Her Property" by Stephanie E. Jones-Rogers. She has filled a void that I've talked about for years. White women's power and control during the slavery era until now, has been minimized at best and nearly completely undocumented in any meaningful way. Jones-Rogers has brought to the forefront, the attitudes, knowledge and actions of southern white women and northern white women plantation owners who played pivotal positions
in the legal, and business side of slavery in the country. This book should be a required read for discussion in every high school and college/university class room.
