Historia
They said it was the "Curse of the Bambino". They said "the bad guys won". Now one of baseball’s all-time good guys, New York Mets legend Mookie Wilson, tells his side of the story - from the ground ball through Bill Buckner’s legs that capped the miraculous 1986 World Series Game Six rally against the Boston Red Sox to the rise and fall of a team that boasted such outsize personalities as Darryl Strawberry, Keith Hernandez, Dwight Gooden, Gary Carter, Lenny Dykstra, and Davey Johnson.

Narrator was not interested in the book
Revisado: 04-22-23
Story of the 1986 Mets is a great baseball story. As a Mets’ fan since they started playing in the Polo Grounds by 1986, the”faithful” were ready for better baseball in. Shea Stadium. The mid 80’s were the Mets time. I had 4 tickets to the Sunday games. And allowed me to buy tickets for the playoffs and games 2 and 6 of the WS.
The narrator didn’t share my enthusiasm or Mookie’s excitement of being so close to elimination.
Unless you are a Yankee or Red Sox fan,you will enjoy this book!

Historia
Worst. President. Ever. flips the great presidential biography on its head, offering an enlightening - and highly entertaining - account of poor James Buchanan's presidency to prove once and for all that, well, few leaders could have done worse. But author Robert Strauss does much more, leading listeners out of Buchanan's terrible term in office to explore with insight and humor his own obsession with presidents, and ultimately the entire notion of ranking our presidents.

Was the worst president
Revisado: 04-05-23
The author appears to be a liberal democrat. There was no mention of what the president’s
duties that are specifically listed in the U.S. Constitution and if president exceeded those duties or ignored them.
The author also listed a group of presidents that were among the worst. But the list didn’t include Woodrow Wilson or FDR.
Wilson was re-elected in part because he kept U. S. Out of the Great War. He was inaugurated in March 1917 and asked for Declaration of War in April 1917. He in office when prohibition and IRS were imposed. He wasted so much time on the League of Nations that he ignored his obligations in the US.
The author also stated that the citizens could elect the senators directly which was implemented until the last century. There were a few more misstated as to when the citizens could vote directly in the federal elections.

Historia
Meet Michael Barnes, a Florida orange grower who finds himself in a Manhattan bar with a couple of hours to kill. It's a couple of hours that almost kill him, as he's swindled, robbed, framed for murder, and hunted down by an assassin in one of the wildest, scariest, funniest, fastest 24 hours ever packed into one novel.

Christmas in NY
Revisado: 03-27-23
no t a Christmas story. The main character goes Downtown in NYC on Christmas Eve. He is chosen as the fall guy in an elaborate plan to ruin someone's Christmas. His Guardian Angel comes to his aid and helps him escape the suspicious characters he meets with. The narrator was excellent. Well worth a listen.

Historia
Though American by birth, Frances Wynn, the now-widowed Countess of Harleigh, has adapted admirably to the quirks and traditions of the British aristocracy. On August 12th, each year, otherwise known as the Glorious Twelfth, most members of the upper class retire to their country estates for grouse-shooting season. Frances has little interest in hunting - or birds or a second husband - and is expecting to spend a quiet few months in London with her almost-engaged sister, Lily, until the throng returns.

Interesting
Revisado: 03-24-23
It seems that the main character has decided that she has become an investigator equal to the Detective Inspector. She also has her band of friends that assist her.
The narrator does a good job; however, even she seems to some moments that she loses her enthusiasm for the story.
Notwithstanding the forgoing, the book was another look at the upper class in England before the war in Europe.

Historia
On February 15, 1898, the USS Maine exploded in Havana Harbor. Although there was no evidence that the Spanish were responsible, yellow newspapers such as William Randolph Hearst's New York Journal whipped Americans into frenzy by claiming that Spain's "secret infernal machine" had destroyed the battleship. Soon after, the blandly handsome and easily influenced President McKinley declared war, sending troops not only to Cuba but also to the Philippines.

Interesting Listen
Revisado: 03-21-23
It was an interesting time in the history of the USA. The old imperialists from Europe were losing their colonies. The book showed how the three main characters shared a vision for America while not being friends. TR and Lodge were best friends but neither cared for Hearst at all. Hearst didn’t like TR. The old saying that politics makes strange bedfellows was so true.
The performance kept the story moving along. It was read more like a novel than a history lesson.

Too Many Chiefs
Revisado: 03-10-23
The first from Stuart Woods, shows how far the author has improved and progressed over the years. The summary sounded interesting but the pace of the book is too slow. Some of sub-plots seem totally irrelevant to the title.
Stuart Woods is one of favorite authors and has written many exciting books. I would suggest passing on this one. His series with Stone Barrington is excellent.

Historia
The loss of America was a stunning and unexpected defeat for the powerful British Empire. Common wisdom has held that incompetent military commanders and political leaders in Britain must have been to blame, but were they? This intriguing audiobook makes a different argument. Weaving together the personal stories of ten prominent men historian Andrew O'Shaughnessy dispels the incompetence myth and uncovers the real reasons that rebellious colonials were able to achieve victory.

The View from Across the Pond
Revisado: 03-09-23
I liked this other view of the American Revolution. The political system in Britain almost required the people in Parliament to discredit those running the war. I did fast forward through some of the never ending descriptions but it quite interesting.

Historia
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

Revisado: 03-04-23
The characters were in England in 1899. Everything evolved around the season. Ladies with a title were looking for a rich titled husband. As the murders continued to increase, the local police could not keep up. Thus the widow and her closest friends took up their own investigation.

The "Wild West" developed in the years following the American Civil War. However, this period of myth-making cowboys, infamous gunslingers, not always law-abiding lawmen, and saloon madams is as much the product of fiction writers and film makers as reality.

Revisado: 03-02-23
The book is about a bunch of little known “outlaws “ that lived after the civil war. While some of so-called bios are interesting, they are too short. The uninteresting ones were too long. Find a book more interesting about the outlaw you are interested in.
