San Francisco widower Martin Hocking proves to be as aloof as he is mesmerizingly handsome. Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

The power of sorrow when left unattended.
Revisado: 03-23-24
Loved the narrator and the depth of impact of everyday nuances on one’s life. I would like to have had more moments of lightheartedness. It was becoming quite heavy with the load and misfortunes. A few more light moments might have balanced it some.

Historia
For much of her life, Anne Morrow, the shy daughter of the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, has stood in the shadows of those around her, including her millionaire father and vibrant older sister, who often steals the spotlight. Then Anne, a college senior with hidden literary aspirations, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas with her family. There she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic. Enthralled by Charles’s assurance and fame, Anne is certain the celebrated aviator has scarcely noticed her. But she is wrong.

One of My All Time Favorites
Revisado: 07-27-23
If evoking an emotional response is the author’s intent, she may consider her mission accomplished. I went from awestruck to furious and eventually back to awestruck by the strength of Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Yes, it was a different time in our culture. Yes, a woman’s prescribed role was yet to be as expansive as today’s, but the knowledge of that does not diminish the power of Anne’s convictions. Melanie Benjamin’s words tugged at every heartstring I have, and I thank her for that!

Historia
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.
