Historia
All of this was because of the dragon stone necklace I scavenged from that dead mage. I knew it was magic when I saw it. Well, it was and it wasn’t. Dragon stone, they call it, but what it actually is, is a dragon’s egg. When I touched it, I felt the need to put it around my neck for safekeeping. When I did, the necklace embedded itself inside my skin, making me the new dragon’s envoy. It has since been my duty to protect the egg until she’s ready to hatch. How do I know the egg is a she? Easy, she talks to me and is helping me to bring out my natural magic talents.

Fun, but not what I expected.

I really enjoyed this book, and I could probably list a bucket of reasons why I shouldn't have. There's no great dialogue, some humour but I didn't fall out of my seat laughing. Some unexpected plot twists, but even when unexpected they fit an expected pattern. Nevertheless I just enjoyed the performance and the story was just fun to follow along with. Even when things go wrong for the main character, they end up going right. I can't really put my finger on it, was just a really fun, enjoyable book and performance to listen to. Certainly better that the crap all the streaming services are firehoseing into the world these days.

Is it easy to survive in the game world? You could say yes, if you didn't know what the additional conditions were. They are unusual: it's the real world in which you have lived all your life. The enemy, craving to destroy you. Your own class who couldn't care less about you. Are you still sure that survival is easy? Then welcome to The Game! It will prove you wrong.

Overall a fun book to listen to, performed well. I particularly enjoy the idiosyncracies of the translation to English, which may not be as entertaining to others.

Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

There is so much to unpack and absorb in this book that my pitiful sapiens brain has read it twice so far and I expect to still be finding stuff the next pass through. mind blown and perspectives changed, cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Historia
More than a year after she helped save the world from the Sparnaxian invasion, Andrea Vernon is in a good place. Her boss is giving her greater responsibility and she’s getting to travel a lot (although her fill-in is hopeless at making coffee); things could be getting even more serious with her 8’ 4” superhero boyfriend, The Big Axe; and she has a really fun new BFF, Never More. Small issue, though, with that last item - Never More is a supervillain bent on world domination, and it looks as if nothing can stop her.

it doesn't get much better than this.
Revisado: 10-05-22
I really liked the first book, the corporate spin on superheroes with some of the best and funniest dialog and twists of anything I've read made it a compelling read/listen. But as good as it was, it was merely a warm-up for this absolute masterpiece. The story plays so closely on the dysfunction we exist in our in the real world that at times I wasn't sure if the tears were from laughing or crying. If you don't like this book it's a pretty good sign that you are part of the problem with humanity.
As for the performance, words fail me. I've listened to a lot of well done performances of books, but Turpin takes it to a whole new level. When torturous turtle (tortoise?) starts his soliloquy I thought I might wet my pants. Off the charts good.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Rose Winter has enough problems. With a marriage going down the tubes and a dreaded anniversary party on the horizon, the last thing she needs is the zombie apocalypse. She wanted to get drunk and sing karaoke, not murder her undead neighbors. It’s clear the party’s over, however, now Rose has more problems - a missing husband, an overbearing houseguest, and keeping her family alive.

Revisado: 09-24-22
I am not normally a fan of the zombie genre, but this book did exactly what should be done in the zombie genre, it let the zombies be your average run of the mill zombies and set up a situation in which rich characters and story could develop. The voice performance is also top notch, making for a winning combination.

Interesting premise executed reasonably well
Revisado: 07-28-22
I enjoyed this series quite a bit. The characters were a bit shallow, but I think I paid 5 bucks for this on a daily deal and for 37 hours of passable entertainment, that's a pretty good value. The basic plotline didn't feel recycled and I really came to despise the bad guy, although toward the end things got a bit silly and cliche.

Great story, books too short.
Revisado: 07-02-22
I've liked the overall story so far, it's got a good ratio of humans being humans to new planet being hostile. my only complaint is that the series could have been merged into a single book. Each one is short and definitely not a good value at full price. if not for books 1 and 2 having been daily deals or sale purchases I would have never listened to them as I generally avoid short books.

Historia
For all of neuroscience's advances, we've made little progress on its biggest question: How do simple cells in the brain create intelligence? Jeff Hawkins and his team discovered that the brain uses map-like structures to build a model of the world - not just one model, but hundreds of thousands of models of everything we know. This discovery allows Hawkins to answer important questions about how we perceive the world, why we have a sense of self, and the origin of high-level thought.

If all he did was explain the 1000 brains theory it'd be worth reading, but the last half of the book is the most insightful and thought provoking reading I've done in a very long time. This should be required reading that goes viral.

When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Revisado: 05-06-22
I loved everything about this book and the performance. Great characters, well developed. Set in an interesting universe based on a delightful premise. I want to see the movie, and all the sequels. The only negative thing about it is the knowledge that at some point I'll read the last one in the series.

A coup has thrown the kingdom of Farshores into turmoil, and one of the pretender’s first moves was to order mercenaries to invade the Mage District and put all its inhabitants - men, women, and children - to the sword. There is one survivor: Horace Stonecutter, the youngest son of the Stonecutter family. Consumed with anger and a hunger for retribution, he journeys out to find who ordered the murder of his family. Along his bloody journey, he meets kings, princes, princesses, noblemen - and not so noble men. May God have mercy on his enemies - because he won’t.

This was like watching someone play through a simplistic game on walkthrough mode with all cheats enabled. If you are into that and just want to read about a character for which everything ultimately goes right and no problem is ever a real challenge, then you'll like it. Narrator did a great job with it, which is most of the reason I listened all the way to the end.
