An Anticlimactic Ending
Revisado: 01-03-24
I loved the first two books, but I was disappointed with just how anticlimactic most of the final book was. Two of the biggest antagonists from the previous books simply die off screen - and the new big bad villain is a wet noodle who helps more than hinders the protagonists. Its basically one drawn out epilogue where a the protagonists don’t face any real challenges.

Historia
Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug-dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. In fact, by age twenty, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most prestigious universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?

Trigger Warning: Pedophilic Rape
Revisado: 07-22-21
I know the title probably conflicts with my rating but while this is a good book I felt one of the flash back scenes was graphic enough to include the trigger warning.
Overall I felt it was a good book, but if you have any trauma related to this you might want to skip ahead during the flashback scene involving the butterfly conservatory.

Historia
The gods who created this world have abandoned it. In their mercy, however, they chained the rogue god - and the monstrous creatures he created to plague mortalkind - in the vast and inhospitable wasteland of the Bourne. The magical Veil that contains them has protected humankind for millennia, and the monsters are little more than tales told to frighten children. But the Veil has become weak and creatures of Nightmare have come through. To fight them, the races of men must form a great alliance to try and stop the creatures. But there is dissent.

Redeeming
Revisado: 10-10-18
After reading the definitive edition of the first book I was annoyed at how much the author assumes you should know without explaining it - especially with so many similar words.
However, this book did a good job of filling in the gaps and helping you understand the world a bit better.

Historia
The gods, makers of worlds, seek to create balance—between matter and energy; and between mortals who strive toward the transcendent, and the natural perils they must tame or overcome. But one of the gods fashions a world filled with hellish creatures far too powerful to allow balance; he is condemned to live for eternity with his most hateful creations in that world's distant Bourne, restrained by a magical veil kept vital by the power of song.

WTH is going on?
Revisado: 08-26-18
At first I kept going back to relisten to parts, certain that I missed some important information, but it’s just not there. Why is Tahn suddenly with a bunch of people being chased. It seems like they’re from his town but why did they come with? What’s with the whole age of accountability thing?
I purchased this because I enjoyed The Sound Of Broken Absolutes and wanted to know more about the mechanics of this world and I kept feeling like my version was missing whole chapters or even a prior book.

Historia
Shroud of Eternity picks up where Terry Goodkind's New York Times bestseller Death's Mistress left off, promising a thrilling brew of bloodshed, sex, deception, and sorcery. The formidable sorceress Nicci and her companions - the newly powerless Nathan and the youthful Bannon - set out on another quest after driving ruthless Norukai slavers out of Renda Bay. Their mission: restore Nathan's magic and, for Nicci, save the world.

*Spoiler Alert*: Yet another barrier has come down
Revisado: 02-02-18
If you’re optimistically hoping that this isn’t another one of Goodkind’s cliche “a barrier/veil/wall of some sort has went down and now we have to deal with what’s beyond it.” books then you’re going to be disappointed.
I think this makes 8-9 times this ‘hook’ has been used by my count. Let’s see... The original Barrier between lands, veil to the underworld, another barrier between lands, entrance to the temple of the winds, another barrier to the lands of pristinely ungifted, barrier to the third kingdom, veil to the city/keep in Nicci’s first book, and now this book.
Also, early on in Ch 22 the author misnames something from a previous book (the name of the statue Richard crafted that was so moving it set off a revolt). I mean come on - the man isn’t even truly trying.
On the other hand - Nicci’s books aren’t near as preachy as Richard’s. Every conversation isn’t quite the dragged out reputation of the same concept over and over with intelligent characters suddenly acting dense to give Richard the chance to keep explaining.
Performance wise, the reader has a tendency to be a bit monotone (and with the rakish Nathan’s voice of all people), there are also a lot of mid sentence awkward pauses that I guess you’re supposed to pretend didn’t happen.
