Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Fresh out of medical residency, Dr. Benjamin Gilmer joined a rural North Carolina clinic only to find that its previous doctor shared his last name. Dr. Vince Gilmer was loved and respected by the community—right up until he strangled his ailing father and then returned to the clinic for a regular week of work. The deeper Benjamin looked into Vince’s case, the more he became obsessed with discovering what pushed a good man toward darkness.

It brought back a million memories of HD
Revisado: 04-22-23
Thank you for writing this book. HD is so hidden from the world. Most people are familiar with ALS, PD, and Alzheimer's, but not many know about HD. My husband died from HD in 2005. He was a lawyer. I am a lawyer too. Prior to the symptoms taking over his and my life, we would go skiing, fishing, dancing, camping - you know all those activities that end in "ing". He taught me how to play chess. We would talk about caselaw. He was fun, funny and hard working with a sense of justice that mirrors the lawyers in your book. In the end he weighted 86 pounds, could not talk, could not swallow, could not - everything. Death was merciful when it finally came. The descriptions of the symptoms in your book are accurate. I remember (with PTSD type of memory) the many rage attacks, the broken furniture, the holes in the walls of our house. This coming from a man who had been gentle, careful and loving. I feel traumatized after listening to all the details. Yet, I am extremely glad that I listened to this book at the recommendation of a friend who remembered that my husband had HD. In my husband's family, his mom and his aunt both died from HD. No one knew that HD was part of the genetic history. The disease came from their father, and he had moved away when they were children. When my husband's mom started getting sick, the doctors misdiagnosed her as having Parkinson's. At some point the diagnosis was corrected, but not before my husband and his first wife already had two sons. Both are at risk for HD. I have attended the HDSA conventions, they were helpful. Again thank you for writing this book and shedding light on this horrible incurable disease. I hope Dr. Vince Gilmer finds himself in a nursing home facility appropriate for HD patients. I wish you great success in all that you do in this life. Rosa Q. Valencia

Anne's story, and life, is spectacular.
Revisado: 11-19-22
The story telling is wonderful. I listened to the book in increments because I wanted to stretch out my enjoyment of her story. Anne and I were in the same law school class. We didn't socialize with the same people, but I always remember her as being very nice to everyone. She always had a smile on her face. I can't recognize the A-hole from law school, but if I knew who he was I would give him a piece of my mind. what a sleeze. RIP Anne and may you be dancing and laughing wherever you are.

Last summer, The New Yorker published chef Anthony Bourdain's shocking, "Don't Eat Before Reading This." Now, the author uses the same "take-no-prisoners" attitude in his deliciously funny and shockingly delectable audiobook, sure to delight gourmands and philistines alike.

This book has no redeeming value.
Revisado: 09-22-22
The author seemed to enjoy finding ways to be horribly offensive with his descriptions of sex acts and drug abuse. What I hated most about this book is the apparent glamorization of both. At times the author slips in comments about kitchen staff that either disparages an ethnic group or are abusive sexual harassment towards others. the chapter filled with profanity added no value to the book. it was just an opportunity for the author to demonstrate his talent to use vulgarity in at least three languages. The parts of the book that were minimally interesting were over shadowed by its shock effect. The book portrays an industry rampant with criminal activity, sex and drug crazed people, both staff and customers. The aftertaste of this book is sadness.
