Historia
Few drugs in history have generated as much controversy as MDMA—or held as much promise. Once vilified as a Schedule I substance that would supposedly eat holes in users’ brains, MDMA (also known as Molly or Ecstasy) is now being hailed as a therapeutic agent that could transform the field of mental health and outpace psilocybin and ketamine as the first psychedelic approved for widespread clinical use. In I Feel Love, science journalist Rachel Nuwer separates fact from fantasy, hope from hype, in the drug’s contested history and still-evolving future.

Text wonderful. Audio performance not wonderful.
Revisado: 04-21-25
The narrator was among the worst I’ve ever heard on Audible. Mispronunciations of even basic words, non-natural cadence. Really distracting. I love Audible. Of the maybe hundred Audibles I’ve listened to, this is among the very worst. At a minimum, I’ll not again buy from this narrator.
But the text is very well written!

Historia
The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old, he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.

Wonderful Story, Fine Narration, Awful Production
Revisado: 05-08-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Laini Taylor is a wonderful writer. Her fantasy worlds are among the best.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters and the fantasy world she creates are spectacular.
What didn’t you like about Steve West’s performance?
His voices are fine. Not the best, but fine. But the production was simply awful. Every time a few of the characters' voices were used, the volume cranked way up as though they were only capable of shouting. Not only did this make listening almost unbearable physically with headphones, it also lost a lot in the subtlety suggested by the text. Really, one of the most disappointing Audible.com offerings I've listened to (with about 50 audiobooks under my belt).
Any additional comments?
Please, please don't use this narrator (or at least not this approach to character voices and their volume) again. It almost ruined Laini Taylor's story, which would be a real shame.

Historia
For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite... Kendra and her brother Seth have no idea their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven.

Couldn't get past AWFUL narration
Revisado: 10-02-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The performance was so bad that I just had to stop. I've never stopped an audiobook before, but this one was so saccharine, so juvenile, so school-marmy - and not in a good, or I think intended way - that I just couldn't. Don't ruin a great author by listening to this one. Go with Beyonders. It's a great audiobook series.
Would you ever listen to anything by Brandon Mull again?
Absolutely. Just never this performer again.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Voice. Emphasis. Tone. Cadence. Really, the whole thing was a total mess. Poor Brandon. He and his fans deserve better.

Slow... Good, but slow
Revisado: 02-29-16
May be in keeping with the topic and the pace intended by the author and protagonist both, but this was slow
