What did you love best about The Butcher of Khardov?

This book does one of the most interesting characters of the Iron Kingdoms justice. His furry and insanity are well portrayed and justified. And the way the story jumps perspectives is a great way of telling this story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Butcher himself.

Which character – as performed by Marc Vietor – was your favorite?

The Butcher himself.

What made the experience of listening to The Dirty Streets of Heaven the most enjoyable?

Tad Williams takes the reader on a great modern paranormal adventure with some innovative takes on Noir in a Modern context. The main character is well portrayed; as a flawed angel, tasked with advocating for the souls of the dead, Bobby Dollar is both real and supernal.

In Noir fashion, our hero is dropped in the thick of the Cold War between Heaven and Hell when a soul disappears on his watch. What follows is a ride that takes Bobby D through the righteous underbelly of San Judas (Santa Clara), California, angering Angels and Demons alike.

While the mystery is solved by the end of the book, it leaves many questions unanswered and I eagerly anticipate the next volume of the Bobby Dollar series.

What about George Newbern’s performance did you like?

Snarky and funny while keeping the tone serious at tense moments of the story.

Would you listen to Hexed again? Why?

I am a huge fan of the Dresden Files, and it's take on Modern Paranormal Fantasy. The Iron Druid Chronicles takes that same style and turns it on a dime for a fantastic look into the workings of ancient druidism applied in a modern context.

The story and characters are delightful to listen to, Luke Daniels nails this perfectly.

Hearne does an excellent job of keeping the details of the previous story in mind, and building on those details to make the story extend beyond just one book. Hexed (book 2) deals with the fallout of Hounded, in which Atticus must confront a coven of witches bent on taking over the region he calls home.

Where does Hounded rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am a huge fan of the Dresden Files, and it's take on Modern Paranormal Fantasy. The Iron Druid Chronicles takes that same style and turns it on a dime for a fantastic look into the workings of ancient druidism applied in a modern context.

The story and characters are delightful to listen to, Luke Daniels nails this perfectly.

Book 1 - Hounded takes us through the basics of the main character, Atticus O’Sullivan. Who he is, how his magic works, and why he talks to gods on a regular basis. The story has Atticus dealing with the return of his longtime nemesis Angus Og.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have been following Chuck Wendig for a few years now, and I have come to enjoy his writing style immensely. The story of Blackbirds is dark, following the story of a troubled young woman who can see when you die, and can't do anything to change it. The writing is fluid, the characters are interesting, and the plot is riveting.

My only critique is that the main character sounds much like Chuck, or at least sounds like the voice he presents during interviews and on his blog. This is not a bad thing, per say; but, it distracted me from remembering that the character was in fact a troubled woman, and not the middle aged self proclaimed pen monkey that entertains almost daily.

Great Fantasy Crime Fiction

Revisado: 11-27-10

I am a sucker for crime fiction, especially heist/caper stories. When those two elements are combined in a fantasy setting that is reminiscent of Renaissance Venice, I was hooked.

This is the first of a series that is still in the making, and I am eagerly awaiting the rest of Scott Lynch's work for the series.

The plot is fun and well paced; the characters are memorable and engaging; overall a great story.
