Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

This was a very enjoyable listen, it pulled on heartstrings throughout and the reveal halfway through of what we're about to converge on keeps the tension going until the end.
Beautiful and and amazing debut novel!

Home Run for Long Term Finances
Revisado: 02-19-23
What I love most about this book is how long term and forward thinking it is in a personal finance landscape that focuses on shame and blame. Scarlett gives specific scripts to re-write your brain from all of the negative, doom and gloom ideas about personal finance without becoming a prosperity gospelite or out of touch with the realities of life.
The only times I find myself distracted from the core message was thinking about people who might find the advice out of reach for them - individuals who perform demanding, necessary jobs with low pay (teaching, retail, CNAs, etc.) I'm not sure how people with demanding jobs that don't pay the same high income people aspire to can achieve the well intentioned and thoughtful advice, though it's out of scope for this book to answer that kind of question.
I think this is stellar if you're a professional or medium to high income household looking for ways to balance your short term happiness with long term savings.

Historia
For much of the 20th and 21st centuries, women’s sexuality was an uncharted territory in science, studied far less frequently - and far less seriously - than its male counterpart. That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.

Life Changing Book
Revisado: 01-08-23
What's the opposite of hollow, toxic positivity? This book. The empathy backed up by science Dr. Emily recommends is anything but the shallow sex obsession we have that just barely scratched the surface of real, true deeply romantic sexuality Emily discusses. Her stories and explanations of anatomy and mechanics that explain situations experiences that were difficult to understand and impossible to explain to a partner are easy to remember and useful tools to embrace on any sex positive journey.

Historia
Bestselling author Dan Pfeiffer dissects how the Right Wing built a massive, billionaire funded disinformation machine powerful enough to bend reality and nearly steal the 2020 election. From the perspective of someone who has spent decades on the frontlines of politics and media, Pfeiffer lays out how the Right Wing media apparatus works, where it came from, and what progressives can do to fight back against disinformation.

Depressing and Sometimes Hopeful
Revisado: 07-10-22
I enjoyed the content but the cuts of the audio were very distracting.
This is a distinctly progressive book that seeks to equip liberal/progressive/Democrats with how to take meaningful action, but at times can leave you feel more like this is cathartic than teaching because the honest answer to a lot of things were mostly fucked for a while and it sucks.

Good evidence based information on parenting/birth
Revisado: 01-30-20
This book is a tough critique on some of the worst parts of the natural parenting and childbirth movement. while average people may not have exposure to some of these scarier ideas, this book lays out the worst parts of the movements leaders and why their actually less safe and less feminist than other alternatives available to birthing parents and their partners.

Historia
There comes a time in every new mother's life when she finds herself staring at her screaming, smelly "bundle of joy" and wishing someone had told her that her house would reek of vomit, or that she shouldn't buy the cute onesies with a thousand impossible buttons, or that she might cry more than the baby. Best-selling humor author Dawn Dais is convinced that there is a reason for this lack of preparedness....

Good honest book about parent - quite critical
Revisado: 05-22-17
We really enjoyed listening to this book as our first parenting book, first time pregnant.
The stories and experiences of these moms were great to hear, but you can skip the chapter on baby pictures. I thought it was really narrow minded and unkind, and I personally love seeing all little babies on Facebook and elsewhere.
Otherwise, the reading performance was great, not robotic like some of the other parenting book samples we listened to before picking this one.
