Losing sleep and falling grades lead her to seek help from her college counselor, a psychologist, and against her better judgment, a psychic medium. To her amazement, she discovers her dead grandfather is trying to contact her to prove his innocence in the murders of the Cunningham family on Halloween night back in 1971. Turning to the police, she convinces a handsome young officer to reopen the murder investigation.

Historia
The discovery of bricked-up skeletal remains at 36, Craven Street point to something more diabolical than an illegal anatomy school. The tool marks on the bones - arcane sigils of great power - indicate more than mere butchery, more than enlightened experimentation. The signs, omens, and portents support the crown's greatest fears. A great evil is being unleashed upon the gaslit streets of London, a blood-drenched shadow reaching skeletal fingers beyond the slums of Whitechapel.

and the demons, too. Great gothic feel. I like the switching of point-of-view between heroine and villain. This is a short, fast read. Looking forward to the next one.

Ghosts and One Beautiful House
Revisado: 02-11-20
Mystery and ghosts and a fixer-upper. I love the idea of finding the perfect house, and what better house than a historically significant one? Even if you've only ever rented, you understand having to fix this and fix that--in my experience, at least. No matter how many times you fix this or decorate that, someone wants you to do (or find) something else. I loved the ghosts in this story, who just come out and tell us what they think. Sometimes, it's even helpful. And, it's funny, while keeping you on the edge of the story 'til the last page.

Super Scary
Revisado: 02-11-20
This true story of a parent turned killer really examines the mind of a killer. Sometimes we say we just want to know... What were they thinking? It's hard to say, but this author, in my opinion, reveals the inner depths of a killer and his family. Heartbreaking and truly scary.

This classic tale is as beautiful as I remember. I still laughed, and cried. I felt the wisdom of the horse, and I enjoyed the pleasure of the simple things, just as I did as a child.

Historia
For the past 14 years, Edgehill’s resident secret witch, Amber Blackwood, has been haunted by her parents’ deaths. The whole town knows about the tragedy, but the details remain a mystery even to Amber. From her tiny studio apartment above her shop, The Quirky Whisker, Amber can see her partially rebuilt old house out on the edge of town. Although she now has a good life, she feels stuck in the past. Amber suspects the fire that killed her parents was set deliberately by a witch from the cursed Penhallow clan, from whom no one has heard since the night her parents died.

Cozy and Warm
Revisado: 02-11-20
I love a good mystery, especially one that's clean and cozy! This one has magic, cats, friendship, and family. I love a story that immerses me in the surroundings, shows me the character's mystery-solving skills, while gingerly weaving out the tableau. Can't wait for the next one!

Historia
Amber Blackwood, lifelong resident of Edgehill, Oregon, has earned a reputation for being a semi-reclusive odd duck. Her store, The Quirky Whisker, is full of curiosities. It has everything from extremely potent sleepy teas and ever-burning candles to kids’ toys that seem to run endlessly without the aid of batteries. The people of Edgehill think of the Quirky Whisker as an integral part of their feline-obsessed town, but most give Amber herself a wide berth. Amber prefers it that way; it keeps her secret safe.

Magic, friendship, cats
Revisado: 02-05-20
I appreciate the ingenuity of the main character, and I love the idea of a hometown store with handmade crafts. I enjoy making things myself, and I always feel that handmade crafts are special because they retain a little bit of the maker. This heroine puts herself in everything she does, for the better. Cozy, cats, and magic.

Unbelievably True story
Revisado: 12-16-19
Fast read. I was riveted. I didn’t know it was a true story until after I finished it. I read the whole thing thinking it was fiction, and I cried for poor Lori—a character—a woman so real, and yet so alone and so remarkable. When I read it, I found myself thinking of true stories that sounded somewhat similar. I believed it and found it wholly unbelievable all at the same time. Stories like this just take my breath away.

Historia
Bram Stoker kept secret a tale even more terrifying than Dracula. It begins among the Carpathian peaks, when an intrepid explorer discovers a mysterious golden box. She brings it back with her to the foggy streets of Victorian London, unaware of its dangerous power…or that an evil beyond imagining has already taken root in the city. Stoker, a successful theater manager but frustrated writer, is drawn into a deadly web spun by the wealthy founders of a mission house for the poor. Far from a safe haven, the mission harbors a dark and terrifying secret.

Bram Stoker, historical fiction
Revisado: 12-16-19
This nod to Stoker has thrills and chills, and it provides some really interesting facts about the real Stoker. In an age when vampires are everywhere, it’s too bad Stoker didn’t get to see his influence.
