Historia
Mo Rocca has always loved obituaries - reading about the remarkable lives of global leaders, Hollywood heavyweights, and innovators who changed the world. But not every notable life has gotten the send-off it deserves. His quest to right that wrong inspired Mobituaries, his number one hit podcast. Now with Mobituaries, the audiobook, he has gone much further, with all new essays on artists, entertainers, sports stars, political pioneers, founding fathers, and more. Even if you know the names, you’ve never understood why they matter...until now.

Eleven Plus Hours of Entertaining History
Revisado: 08-29-23
Those of a certain age will be familiar with many of these stories, but I found that the depth of the stories surprised me with new, to me, information. While some of the stories were sad, many had me laughing out loud.
Mo’s delivery was heartfelt and respectful. I enjoyed learning more about Mo as well. He certainly had an interesting childhood.

Historia
In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box. But when the Eastwood sisters - James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna - join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement.

Let's hear it for the witches...
Revisado: 07-03-23
I absolutely LOVED everything about this book. It's one of those that you hate when it ends and wish the story could continue in another book. The narrator was fantastic.
While the story is fiction, there are so many instances describing the awful circumstances and treatment of women that seem to be trying to make a comeback in today's world. The witches are loyal to each other and fight hard to move ahead of the abuse.
The author explores each of the main characters in a thoughtful and expansive way. Thank you Alix for the Cleo character.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

A History Lesson
Revisado: 07-02-23
Somehow, I missed learning about apartheid...this book made me laugh and cry. I didn't know about Trevor's life before and him sharing his story in the most personal way was not only educational but extremely emotional.
I'm so glad he decided to record the audio himself. His is truly a rags to riches tale with a backstory riddled with discrimination, abuse, and ridicule.
Don't get me wrong though...there is so much else to his story. There is his mother's stabilizing love nurturing him while maintaining a rather strict behavioral code. Telling his story and mixing in several native languages only made it more interesting.

Historia
The Big Break investigates how Washington works, and how different kinds of people try to make it work for them. Ben Terris presents an inside history of this crucial moment in Washington, reporting from exclusive parties, poker nights, fundraisers, secluded farms outside town and the halls of Congress; among the oddballs and opportunists and true believers. This book is about the people who see this moment as an opportunity to bet big—on their country or maybe just on themselves.

Performance was the best part...
Revisado: 07-02-23
I downloaded this book because I had seen Ben on a cable show and it sounded like it would be worth an Audible credit. It was a pretty good book, but the best part was Tim's narration. Tim made it seem like you were in the room with him. There were things in the book that were "new news" and unfortunately totally believable given the state of our politics today. Of course, this gives me really awful heartburn and a feeling of dread for the future.

Historia
Chief medical examiner Kay Scarpetta is the reluctant star witness in a sensational murder trial when she receives shocking news. The judge’s sister has been found dead. At first glance, it appears to be a home invasion, but then why was nothing stolen, and why is the garden strewn with dead plants and insects? Although there is no apparent cause of death, Scarpetta recognizes telltale signs of the unthinkable, and she knows the worst is yet to come. The forensic pathologist finds herself pitted against a powerful force that returns her to the past.

High Hopes Dashed
Revisado: 03-11-23
Most of the book was very good, timely subject matter and believable premise. However, the ending was so disappointing! I haven’t read all of her books, but enough to know that this ending was particularly bad.
I did love the narration though.

Historia
As one of the strategists behind the famous 2012 RNC “autopsy,” Miller conducts his own forensic study on the pungent carcass of the party he used to love, cutting into all the hubris, ambition, idiocy, desperation, and self-deception for everyone to see. In a bracingly honest reflection on both his own past work for the Republican Party and the contortions of his former peers in the GOP establishment, Miller draws a straight line between the actions of the 2000s GOP to the Republican political class's Trumpian takeover, including the horrors of January 6th.

A Must Listen!!!
Revisado: 08-30-22
This book is absolutely a must listen. I've watched Tim on MSNBC many times, but did know his background. I did not know he was gay and it only adds to the complexity of his book.
Tim not only "spins a yarn", but makes one really understand what was and is going on with Trump's Republican Party. Like Tim, I keep asking myself, "How can this be happening and why isn't someone doing something about it?" Please everyone, if you want to keep our democracy, VOTE Democratic!
I loved the stories about the different players in the Trump administration, but especially the one about Sean Spicer.
While I initially was disappointed that Tim didn't read the book himself, I absolutely loved Josh Bloomberg. I could forget Tim wasn't reading because Josh got everything right.

Historia
By the time she became US Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch had seen her share of corruption, instability, and tragedy in developing countries. But it came as a shock when, in early 2019, she was recalled from her post after a smear campaign by President Trump’s personal attorney and his associates—men operating outside of normal governmental channels, and apparently motivated by personal gain. Her courageous participation in the subsequent impeachment inquiry earned Yovanovitch the nation’s respect, and her dignified response to the president’s attacks won our hearts.

Truly an exceptional woman!
Revisado: 04-12-22
Already a fan of Marie from her testimony, but her book gave me so much more information about her work and family.
She is a remarkable woman, handling her missions with intelligence and bravery.
As an introvert myself, I highly recommend her book. Yes, you can read the book yourself, but listening to it felt like she was in the room telling me her story.
