Folklore & horror blended into fantastic tales!
Revisado: 08-07-13
Like another reviewer here, I first heard a few of Jim Bihyeh's tales on a podcast. Out of the hundreds of tales of I have heard on that particular program, I must say Bihyeh's were among the few that stood out to me over the others. They are well written, well performed by Conroy and most importantly, unique.
The stories are saturated in Navajo folklore, and to me, that is something I have seldom (if ever) have come across outside of an actual book written about a particular culture's folklore. Not only are you listening to captivating stories, but you feel as if you're learning a little something about the Navajo culture throughout the collection's entirety, which is definitely a plus for me or any avid reader for that matter.
These stories reminded me of reading legends and mythology when I was a child. Full of mysticism, magic, superstition.... but here these things seem almost believable. The look into the lives of the characters of each story paints an all too realistic world while there are dark forces at work all around them. When Coyote crosses your path, he can give hope, he can break you, he does as he pleases. Sometimes you aren't sure whether he's the bad guy or the good guy.
Conroy gives an almost perfect voice to these stories. His interpretation of Bihyeh's writing is impeccable. I am surprised to see that there are only 9 reviews of this collection so far. Any horror or fantasy enthusiast would enjoy these. Heck, I believe anyone would!

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Great new book by SK. His best in years.
Revisado: 01-21-13
I was hesitant about this book at first. It seemed so outside of what I've been used to by King, not to mention that I was not as pleased with his books that have come out in the last few years. Not only was I not disappointed, but this well exceeded my expectations.
The book has strong characters and the concept is captivating out of the gate. Although there may have been some short-lived lulling portions, those were hardly memorable against the magnificence of the story. This was one audiobook that I could hardly wait to get back to day after day.
Craig Wasson was.... adequate. He was good with the content, but I didn't always particularly care for his interpretation and his god-awful women's voices.
Overall, fantastic. I recommended this book to four of my close friends and family members, and they all thought it was wonderful as well. This is one I will most definitely read again in the future.

Not King's best, but great follow up to Talisman.
Revisado: 01-21-13
Would you listen to Black House again? Why?
I love Stephen King as much as the next guy, but I probably would not. It was a good story, but I suppose that I've grown tired of the Territories.
What other book might you compare Black House to and why?
The Talisman and The Dark Tower series. Same settings and familiar faces.
Any additional comments?
Frank Muller was incredible as always. If you've read/listened to The Talisman, you should definitely experience this conclusion of the tale.

A serial murderer known only by a grotesquely apt nickname—Buffalo Bill—is stalking women. He has a purpose, but no one can fathom it, for the bodies are discovered in different states. Clarice Starling, a young trainee at the FBI Academy, is surprised to be summoned by Jack Crawford, chief of the Bureau's Behavioral Science section. Her assignment: to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter—Hannibal the Cannibal—who is kept under close watch in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

Super impressed with this book. Movie didn't spoil
Revisado: 08-27-12
Would you consider the audio edition of The Silence of the Lambs to be better than the print version?
I have not read the print version of this book, but man, Frank Muller was the best!
What other book might you compare The Silence of the Lambs to and why?
I'm not sure if I have read a book quite like this. The depth in which Harris brought you inside of Starling's thoughts was really amazing. There is no comparison I have come across.
Which scene was your favorite?
I liked toward the end when Starling was hunting Buffalo Bill in the dark house. Very tense.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely
Any additional comments?
If you enjoyed the movie, this is definitely worth a read/listen. Harris is a phenomenal writer!

What a fantastic story!
Revisado: 03-12-12
The story was really gripping from beginning to end. Full of tragedy, lust and human emotion. Kate does an amazing job of narrating. I will be recommending this to my friends and family. Outstanding! I would absolutely listen to Therese Raquin again.
