The story of the man who won the battle of Midway and avenged Pearl Harbor for the United States. During the Battle of Midway in June 1942, US Navy dive bomber pilot Wade McClusky proved himself to be one of the greatest pilots and combat leaders in American history, but his story has never been told - until now.

Bad producers
Revisado: 04-10-22
Many repeated phrases and sentences that are a sign of inexpensive inept producers. Also not knowing how to accurately pronounce submariner for a Naval history book is pretty much the tell tale sign of nothing good to come. Such an important story about a great US Navy Officer deserves better. Great book but this version is poorly produced.

Historia
Only four men in American history have been promoted to the five-star rank of Admiral of the Fleet: William Leahy, Ernest King, Chester Nimitz, and William Halsey. These four men were the best and the brightest the navy produced, and together they led the U.S. Navy to victory in World War II, establishing the United States as the world's greatest fleet. In The Admirals, award-winning historian Walter R. Borneman tells their story in full detail for the first time.

Producers need to take a bigger part in verifying correct pronunciation
Revisado: 12-15-20
I do not understand why so many audio books with great material has producers who clearly have no prior association with the material. The number of mispronounced words was annoying but the material was worth the pain. The reader has good timbre and diction but had no support from the production staff on pronunciation.

Historia
Sandwiched between the Revolution and the Civil War, the War of 1812 is one of America’s forgotten conflicts, and the stalemated nature of the war (which resolved virtually none of either side’s war aims) has also ensured that it is often given merely a cursory overview. Under President Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809) and James Madison (1809-1817), the United States tried to steer a course that would keep it from being drawn into the European war and defend its neutrality on the high seas.

How can you narrate or produce an audible book when you can’t even pronounce one of the topics of the book’s name? At least Mr Lusitania was consistent. He mispronounced Decatur every time he read it. There were also a few facts that were completely wrong. I lost confidence in any fact I hadn’t already read/learned elsewhere.
Could have been a great topic.
Very disappointing. Save your money don’t buy this audible book.

Historia
It is 1780, and 17-year-old Alan Lewrie is a brash, rebellious young libertine. So much so that his callous father believes a bit of naval discipline will turn the boy around. Fresh aboard the tall-masted Ariadne, Midshipman Lewrie heads for the war-torn Americas, finding - rather unexpectedly - that he is a born sailor, equally at home with the randy pleasures of the port and the raging battles on the high seas. But in a hail of cannonballs comes a bawdy surprise.

More of an average upper middle class rake’s story of finding his way through the Royal Navy. A very believable alternative view. Absent a few mis-pronounced nautical terms a fine narration. Lambdin’s knowledge of wooden ship sailing and the Senior Service ties the story together well.

Historia
Herman Melville, potentially one of America’s most important novelists, wrote White Jacket (published in 1850) based on his experiences serving the US Navy aboard the frigate USS Neversink from 1843 to 1844. White Jacket is considered to be Melville’s most politically charged novel due to its severe criticism of the US Navy and its policies at the time. In fact, the novel helped bring about the end of flogging aboard Naval ships (then a standard practice) due to its graphic and brutal descriptions of the floggings Melville himself witnessed.

Abject lack of vocabulary and reading skills
Revisado: 04-22-19
I don’t blame narrator Joseph Sepe for having the worst vocabulary or weakest reading skills I’ve ever heard by a narrator for an Audible book. I blame the people who hired him. This was the most painful listen I have encountered yet on Audible. How can you hire a narrator who can’t even pronounce the name Trafalgar? I heard the same word mispronounced two separate ways in the same sentence. DON’T BUY THIS BOOK UNLESS YOU ARE A SPEACH THERAPIST AND YOU NEED EXAMPLES OF HOW NOT TO READ.
Audible please find someone with at least a scintilla of historical knowledge to help you hire / approve your narrators.

Historia
From the time of the Greeks and the Persians clashing in the Mediterranean, sea power has determined world power. To an extent that is often underappreciated, it still does. No one understands this better than Admiral Jim Stavridis. In Sea Power, Admiral Stavridis takes us with him on a tour of the world's oceans from the admiral's chair, showing us how the geography of the oceans has shaped the destinies of nations and how naval power has in a real sense made the world we live in today and will shape the world we live in tomorrow.

Correct title should be “White Paper on Maritime Diplomacy”
Revisado: 02-13-19
Some where between a history of Sea power, the memoirs of Admiral James Stavridis, future US maritime policy and a sermon on marine environmental conservation lies this book. Overall a good update to a basic survey of historical sea power but littered with “I remember when” and, to paraphrase, “You people don’t know what you’re doing”. I thank Admiral Stavridis for his service and the book was okay. Bad narrator. Mispronunciations abound. That’s part of the producers fault if the narrator has no sea knowledge. And this one doesn’t.

I was hoping to hear some vintage interview or performances by Johnny Cash. However you will find none of that here. Story was good but I’m disappointed with the lack of original material from the subject of the piece.

Historia
Most historians study the smallest slivers of time, emphasizing specific dates, individuals, and documents. But what would it look like to study the whole of history, from the big bang through the present day - and even into the remote future? How would looking at the full span of time change the way we perceive the universe, the earth, and our very existence? These were the questions David Christian set out to answer when he created the field of "Big History", the most exciting new approach to understanding where we have been, where we are, and where we are going.

Historia
The high command of the Army of the Potomac was a changeable, often dysfunctional band of brothers, going through the fires of war under seven commanding generals in three years, until Grant came east in 1864. The men in charge all too frequently appeared to be fighting against the administration in Washington instead of for it, increasingly cast as political pawns facing down a vindictive congressional Committee on the Conduct of the War.
