Historia
Dorset is the latest setting for the talents of Inspector Ian Rutledge, a veteran of the First World War still haunted, literally, by his actions. Indeed, his personal ghost only serves to complicate things as his inner doubts blend into the trauma of the case.

Another Winner but...
Revisado: 02-24-19
I admire the complex plots of the duo known as Charles Todd. Often, I have to resort to pen and paper to keep track of the characters and the relationships. But, there is too much flotsam and jetsam in this novel. I sense an effort to make it long rather than the detritus contributing to the plot. The intricacies of the interweaving plot is more than worth the effort to listen. But be prepared to want to skim over a real page in a real book.

Historia
When an intricate old map is found stuffed into the walls of the bistro in Three Pines, it at first seems no more than a curiosity. But the closer the villagers look, the stranger it becomes. Given to Armand Gamache as a gift the first day of his new job, the map eventually leads him to shattering secrets. To an old friend and older adversary. It leads the former Chief of Homicide for the Sûreté du Québec to places even he is afraid to go. But must. And there he finds four young cadets in the Sûreté academy, and a dead professor. And, with the body, a copy of the old, odd map.

Great Reckoning. Great Read.
Revisado: 01-14-18
This is one of my favourite series and this novel has not let me down. In fact, it is the best I have read (listened to) so far about Three Pines and the characters who inhabit it. The novel has a convoluted plot, excellent character development and holds the listener's attention start to finish. However, I'd have liked the ending to be a bit shorter, less drawn out. It was worth the wait, bit I found myself a tad impatient waiting! Highly recommended.

Historia
In 1518, in a small town in Alsace, Frau Troffea began dancing and didn't stop. She danced until she was carried away six days later, and soon 34 more villagers joined her. Then more. In a month more than 400 people had been stricken by the mysterious dancing plague. In late-19th-century England an eccentric gentleman founded the No Nose Club in his gracious townhome - a social club for those who had lost their noses, and other body parts, to the plague of syphilis for which there was then no cure.

History Brought to Life
Revisado: 10-09-17
This is the first book I’ve listened to by this author but it won’t be the last. She presented research into history’s deadliest plagues from cholera and typhoid to polio and AIDS. You might think that would be a gloomy history, but Jennifer Wright brought humour to the subject and I came away wanting more. More, please, Ms Wright. Highly recommend.

Revisado: 04-11-17
We fans waited a long time for this latest novel and Coben did not disappoint. The plot moves along nicely at a quick pace, coming alive under the expert narration of Steven Weber. My only quarrel with the novel was that the solution to the main plot was a little unbelievable -- too easy. But overall, it was great!

I enjoyed the reading by Welliver and I enjoyed the interaction of Haller with Bosch. I also enjoyed the forward looking close. But it wasn't Bosch at his hard-hitting best. Next time.

Historia
The year is 1933. Maisie Dobbs is contacted by an Indian gentleman who has come to England in the hopes of finding out who killed his sister two months ago. Scotland Yard failed to make any arrest in the case, and there is reason to believe they failed to conduct a thorough investigation. The case becomes even more challenging when another Indian woman is murdered just hours before a scheduled interview. Meanwhile, unfinished business from a previous case becomes a distraction, as does a new development in Maisie's personal life.

This is another good listen about the adventures of Maisie Dobbs. But there is too much padding of her past. We hear too much of where she has come from, again and again. We listen to Maisie as much for the plot as for the history of the times. I wish Winspear would moved the plot ahead without the padding. However, that being said, I still love this series.

Historia
Winter in Three Pines, and the sleepy village is carpeted in snow. It's a time of peace and goodwill - until a scream pierces the biting air. A spectator at the annual Boxing Day curling match has been fatally electrocuted. Despite the large crowd, there are no witnesses and - apparently - no clues. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache discovers a history of secrets and enemies in the dead woman's past.

A good story
Revisado: 06-30-15
Love these stories. Love the wacky characters and how their lives progress from book to book. Also love that they're set in Quebec. She's a visual writer and almost paints her scenes on the page (in your ear). The description of the Canadian winter is enough to set your teeth on edge, especially for those of us who live it. Only criticism is that the village seems a tad stereotyped, a bit like a Canuck postcard. But, life may actually be like that in the Eastern Townships. Highly recommend.

An Excellent Book
Revisado: 06-09-15
No other book he's written shows off the abilities of Greg Isles to tell a ripping yarn and hold the reader's interest. The plot is relatively simple: a family is held hostage. Few writers could hold the listener's/reader's interest for 10 hours with such a simple premise, but Isles does it.
That being said, I could have done without about 90 minutes of it. There was too much explanation over and over again to what the editors must have believed was a thick-headed public who couldn't keep basic facts straight. And at the end, when the "hero" goes through a flashback, the listener is just screaming, "Oh get on with it! Who cares?" We know our hero is a hero!
But all in all, this is an excellent story and I recommend it.

Quite a story
Revisado: 12-04-13
I haven't listened to any of this author's books before, but I certainly will order another one in the hopes that it will be as interesting as this one. I was a little concerned at the slow, long narrative arc in part 1 of the download. I felt it was a little slow and considering the novel was billed as a mystery, it was a little too long for the mystery and murders to get going. The character development is good, though, and that takes most of the first part. Then, the novel gets going big time in part 2. The ending is brilliant...so brilliant I caught my breath! Completely unexpected, by me anyway. This novel deserves a listen.

Don't bother
Revisado: 10-08-13
If you have ever enjoyed a Jack Reacher novel, give this one a miss. A more frustrating audio novel I have never encountered. It's as if Lee Childs were getting a penny a word like the old-time journalists used to earn. There's more useless detail in this novel than you could possible imagine. Who is interested whether the heroine's boots are under the chair and Reacher's jacket on the back of the chair when it has nothing to do with the plot. Speaking of which, I'm sure the plot is fascinating, but the snippets are so few and far between as to be laughable. The premise of Reacher's returning to his 101st command base because of a voice on the phone is weak enough, but the rest of the plot unfolds with glacial speed and I find myself longing for the hardcover so I can skim.
